St. Augustine Tips

We are headed to St. Augustine next week. Staying at North Beach Camp Resort.

Looking for tips on places to see and restaurants that others have visited.

Thanks!

Only stayed there one night, but made the most of it. We ate at the restaurant directly across the street from the office. The name escapes me, but the food (scallops) was very good with ocean views. Little pricy, but worth it.
Also, wake up early and catch the sun rise from the same restaurant/beach. I’m not usually the one to wake up early, but I read so much about the beautiful sunrise in that area. Glad I did. Several people gather every morning to watch/photograph the sun crest on the ocean skyline.
One of my favorite campgrounds! Enjoy!

I can't comment on restaurants but you should visit the lighthouse and the Castillo de San Marcos. The downtown parking garage was very expensive when we were there recently. We found free on-street parking a couple of blocks away (during the week, likely very busy on weekends).

I'd say walk around Old Town and you'll see something you like.
St. Augustine is a great stop.

I worked in and around St. Augustine for a number of years. Some have already mentioned the St. Augustine Lighthouse and the Castillo de San Marcos are must sees. In addition, I would recommend seeing Flagler college which is the former Ponce de Leon Hotel which was built by Henry Flagler in 1888. Also, be sure to see the bridge of Lions in Downtown St. Augustine.

As far as restaurants, I would highly recommend O'Steens which is on Anastasia Boulevard, not far from the Lighthouse. If not the best shrimp in the world, it is close thereto. It has been a number of years since I have been there, but it always has a long line and it is cash only.

St. Augustine, FL - Visitor tips

Adding to the collection of suggestions... in addition to those already mentioned we've done these on various visits to the area. All were good.

San Sebastian Winery - Tasting & Tour @1 hour - Free until you start bringing stuff back to the trailer
https://www.sansebastianwinery.com/information.php

Ripley's Believe It or Not - Walk through @1 hour - $$

Gator Farm - @1 hour - $$

The downtown shop area across from the Fort is a nice walk around. Shops, food, antiques, hand crafted stuff. Nice time just browsing around. There's also a bunch of tour trolley's that weave in and out of the downtown area. We didn't try the trolley's...

A must do is the Ice Plant restaurant, bar and distillery. Great craft cocktails and good food. www.iceplantbar.com

I think we stayed at the same campground.

We found it very worthwhile to buy tickets for the little hop on - hop off trolleys that run around town and give a narrated tour. We bought tickets good for two days and they threw in a third day at the same price.

Great to be able to easily park the truck at their carpark (no extra charge) at the N end of town not far from the campground, and just forget about it! You can buy combintion tickets that give you entry to various attractions.

The Lighter Museum downtown is well worth a visit - done that a couple of times!

Thanks guys! A lot of great suggestions. The guidebooks are helpful but there is nothing quite as good as first hand experience from people you trust!

Again, thanks!
