Spring Break - Kid Friendly in FL, AL or GA?

Hey forum! We are going to take the kids down to the SW part of GA or LA (Lower Alabama) or possibly the Panhandle of FL. It will be the week following Easter and we were wondering if the forum had a recommendation for a nice campground? We don't mind a good party (being that it is Spring Break) but would prefer to leave our college adventures a memory for now - particularly since we'll have our kids with us.

Any ideas?

Hiking, birding, lake, a beach if its not overrun with hammered co-eds would all be great.

Topsail Hill State Park. 3 miles of beachfront in the park. I doubt the co-eds are going to use the day use if they are already staying in one of the towns.

Big John, we held a small rally last year at Blanton Creek Park, which is actually run by Georgia Power. It is located on Lake Harding in GA but close to the AL line, not far from Hamilton or Columbus, GA. It is absolutely gorgeous - great if you like kayaking or canoeing.

Also FDR State Park is one of our favorites - close to Pine Mountain and Callaway Gardens.

Another real interesting place, in a slightly eastern direction, is the Okefenokee Swamp - in SE GA, right on the FL line. It has been years since we camped there with our kids, and at the time we were tent camping, but really cool.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Take a look at Grayton Beach State Park in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Grayton has a number of new sites with full hook ups. The park is on the Gulf of Mexico, with its own beautiful secluded beach. It is also on Western Lake, one of the rare coastal dune lakes along this stretch of the panhandle. Grayton is about a mile from Seaside.

I would also recommend Topsail Hill and Grayton Beach in the Panhandle. There are plenty of things to do for adults and kids throughout the area:

Welcome to Florida State Parks

Grayton Beach State Park, a Florida State Park near Niceville

Both parks are great and will provide access to the beach for the kids. I will tell you that Spring Break just kicked off this weekend, but you won't find them in the parks. They like to stay in the condos along the beach and should really have cleared out the week after Easter.

Here's the 2010 Sprong Break Schedule:

Spring Break 2010 College & University Dates

Looks like mid April will be smooth sailing other than Florida Community College at Jacksonville having the week of April 5th off. I imagine they would stay closer to the east coast though. Good Luck!

Okeefenokee is where I will be around that time depending on when your spring break is. It is a great place to be.

I don't know what age your kids are or what they want for entertainment. I know all the kids that I have taught over the years love Panama City. Now your talking about getting really crazy. My daughter went with friends camping down to Gulf Shores before. I hear that is really nice.

Got lucky and reserved the whole week at Gulf Shores State Park in LA!

As expected all of the FL state parks were full up.

Thanks for the advice...now to just upgrade my TV in the next month!
