Southwest Road Trip
We're about half way through our southwest road trip. We left Western North Carolina on Wednesday Sept 6th. We've already hit Meteor Crater, Grand Canyon, Zion and now camped at Ruby's outside of Bryce Canyon. We'll leave in two days for Arches then Monument Valley before heading back home.
Here's a shot from Petrified Forest with the Blue Mesa in the background.

Great picture, how far did you have to walk to get it? Meteor Crater? I attended a 4CU Rally there two weeks ago. We stayed at the RV park just off I-40 at the crater exit. It's a very big hole in the ground!
Have safe trip...

We are leaving for the Grand Canyon area in a week. What is your assessment of the campgrounds in that area? I am researching them now. Any tips on places to stay would be appreciated.
Looks like you have had a fantastic trip.

Caryl...check out Dave's (handle = wagnerda) thread on his trip...or perhaps contact him through an email or personal message...he was just at the Grand Canyon (in his 19' Bambi)...see post #25 at http://www.airforums.com/forums/f42/...p-35641-2.html
Looks like he was in a great place at the Grand Canyon...

We stayed in Trailer Village in the Grand Canyon National Park on the south rim. Had a decent spot and the free shuttle has a stop there and runs every 15 minutes.
Here's a couple shots in Trailer Park and that's Donna, Pieman's wife, speaking to my wife (Roadschooler) who is there full time working staying in their Airstream.
BTW, we weren't parked 10 minutes and this bull elk showed up.

Is this the big hole you're talking about? We stayed in the same RV park too:

Duane,
Thanks for the pictures. It is great to actually see the campground and the area around it. I am also checking out Nat'l Forest campgrounds south of Flagstaff towards Sedona. There are so many choices! I will decide and be on the internet and phone making reservations tomorrow.
I look forward to more of your pictures. Love 'em.

I have been at the north and south rim. The north is less crowded, more laid back, cooler 1000' higher and I enjoyed it a lot more. There are less developed lookouts, but a lot of less developed points you can drive to in the surrounding Kaibab National Forest. Even though the north rim is 10 miles from the south rim as the crow flies, unless you are a crow and your airstream has wings you're in for a 200+m drive through Page. It's well worh it. In Page you can see the dam and take a cruise on Lake Powell to Rainbow Bridge. There is one campsite in the NP. You need to make reservations even though a lot of sites were unoccupied when I was there 2 weeks ago.
If you are heading back east on I-40 through NM you are welcome to park it at my place in Estancia, just east of Albuquerque.

Morning Marshall, I'm at Ruby's at the entrance of Bryce Canyon helping the better half with laundry this morning and have free internet. We'll be heading back to Western North Carolina via I-40 as that was the way we came out.
We were hoping to get to Santa Rosa, NM on our way home from Monument Valley as that would give us a shorter day our last day driving home.
On the way out we stayed west of Albuquerque at the American RV Park.
Here's some more pics from the trip so far:

We were in this area in June. Stayed in Trailer Vlg at Grand Canyon and met the same Airstream couple mentioned earlier. Traveled down to the Petrified Forest and stay at the Route 66 RV Park. Wasn't fancy but clean. It was very close to the Petrified Forest. Made a side trip to the Metor Creater.
