Southern Connecticut camping - suggestions needed

Can anyone suggest a place to park/camp in southern Connecticut? Fairfield County area?

Thanks!

Son is off to grad school and Dad will need a place to park 64' of combined rig. Prefer full hookups. Don't know just when, but assume late summer or early fall of 2015.

Or, about ten years after this thread was originally posted. I realize "southern"doesn't mean much relative to where I'm from (I'd have just posted the entire state as a question mark) so an hour more solo drive away from New Haven is fully acceptable.

Have looked at RV Park Reviews for Clinton, Madison, etc, but nothing really jumps out.

Where to shop for food would also be appreciated.

Trip planning is sure part of the fun.

Thanks

Ross

We did a one nighter at a place called Riverdale RV in the Madison area. Easy access off 95 at exit 62 and only 20 miles or so from New Haven. Nothing special about the place but as I recall it was nice enough. I wouldn't hesitate to give it another go when traveling through the area.
Actually the address says Clinton, Ct. There are probably others that a google search will bring up so go hunting I'm sure you'll find something.
Can't say about groceries but it's a populated area so should be easy enough but the Connecticut coast is always good for seafood.

Riverdale had mixed reviews, so, thank you. I think I'd rather be at an RV park for this trip, but am open to all suggestions.

As to food I suppose I should be more specific. "Best quality" is what is sought. I'm aware that this state is high income thus there may be plenty of choices.

Slow - there really isn't anything in Fairfield county. Almost exactly an hour east from Fairfied (so about 40 minutes east from New Haven) is the Lyme area of CT. We've stayed several times at Aces High in East Lyme, CT. If you're looking for a simple "home base" to park your trailer and see the sights, this is a decent place in our opinion. It's an RV park - there are water sites that aren't bad at all but it's densely populated.

Do you have the Allstays App? Lots of good info there. You could also visit http://www.campconn.com/ and search by location (you'll find literally nothing in Fairfield county).

I'll think about the other places we've stayed in the area but this is a pretty convenient "go to" when we're looking for a simple getaway. Here's a link:

I have stayed at Markham Meadows. That area of CT pretty much has zero places to stay. I have done work at Fairfield U and boondocked on grounds. I have also stAyed in Kettletown State park, very pretty, no where near New Haven and no hookups. My point is you have limited choice. Chance u could park in son's driveway?

I have wedding in New Milford CT next Oct and I am having a terrible time finding a place. Good luck and let us know who u fare.

Thank you both.

This trip is more than the ordinary. Son has been overseas with USMC for more than five years. Nearly six by the time of this trip. And I do not know if it will be the reunion, but it will be reacquainting ourselves to one another after long separation.

So my first thoughts are congenial surroundings and good food. Some new books to look over. Some old familiar dishes. I'm sure you can all put yourselves in my shoes for what the use of a TT can provide.

I expect to make my way across NY state to this area. Might make a detour to London, ON for the outbound leg. Nothing certain as yet.

(The OP I note is still an active member and I hope he/she gets a kick out of this ancient thread revived. I'll start another once I know more of what I can plan with).

you might find sites at military bases if you have access.
