South Texas - Shiner

We took a very short trip south to Palmetto State Park (south of I-10 between San Antonio and Houston) and made a side trip to Shiner. Even visited the Shiner Brewery for a tour and, of course, beer samples. The unforecasted rain storm cut our trip down to two nights. Nevertheless, I can recommend Palmetto Park -- very nice, clean and $16/night. It's on the San Marcos river and usable for kayaking, fishing, tubing, etc. In Shiner we discovered a city park with water/electric spots ($20). Not a bad idea to stay there if you are just passing through and want to stay for a tour of the town & brewery. Shiner is an exceptionally clean small town - and they are proud of it. calling themselves the "Cleanest Little City in Texas"

Shiner Tour

I looks like a great weekend get away. We have always thought about going to Palmetto and also doing a Shiner tour. I have been to Shiner and it is a neat small town, but never had time to do a tour. Is the brewery open for tours on the weekend?

It's nice to see a new side of Texas, isn't it? Some of our favorite get-aways are just a few days, right here in our favorite state. Nice to see someone else loving the local land.
