South Flordia trip for NJ first two weeks weeks of Febuary

Hello forum, we are new AS owners and are planning to be in South Florida the first two weeks of February, we prefer federal and state parks as we have been car campers. Now with the TT and TV we are a 40 foot problem. We are very flexible but have been unable to reserve space. Any comments or suggestions from the forum would be greatly appreciated. We are ver excited, just got the FC 20 in November . Thanks in advance.

I used to live in FL, and finding a campsite this time of year was a problem with the thousands of snowbirds. However, you are only a 20' problem when searching trailer sites as there is usually room for a TV next to or in front of the trailer. Many of the CG's hold spaces for walk-ups and you pay day by day. Check out allstays.com for campsites as there are some nice county and city parks as well.

In Miami-Dade county there is the Florida City Campground, which is seldom full. It does not take reservations. It is not a resort but it has always been clean and safe.

Farther up the coast, near Ft Lauderdale, Broward County has 4 campgrounds with hook-ups.

Still farther North, Phipps Park near Palm City almost always has space.

Enjoy the journey,

Mike

i would use florida city only as a last resort. this winter has left lots of open spots in the miami area. i'm currently at :
Miami-Dade County - Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces - Larry and Penny Thompson Park
it isn't a resort but is quite comfortable and close to lots of sights.

there are also a few Airstream parks in Florida.

Along RT 41 between Miami and Naples is a place called Midway. Not part of the Everglades NP but Big Cypress Nat. Preserve. Camping there is $16 / night with electric on site. Water and dump available. Can't beat it. I don't think they take reservations but we've always gotten a site there. Try to arrive in mid-afternoon.

We pretty much stay in fl state parks the whole winter, have always been able to get reservations a week or my two ahead of time. I think all the sites are booked many months in advance, then people cancel as the date approaches. Sometimes we have to move from one site to another to stay in the park but it's easy to pack when you only have to drive a hundred yards at 5mph.

There are so many parks that you can almost always find something if you have some flexibility.

A tip on using reserve America(which is the only way to reserve a fl sp site) if you say you want to find a site for seven days it will only show choices where ONE site is available for your date range. You may well be able to stay 7 days by getting one site for the first 3 then another for the next 4.

We are in SW Fl (Oscar Scherer SP, my fl favorite) right now. There are four really nice state parks within a couple of hours drive. If we can't stay here we can try three others.

I wouldn't sweat the lack of advance reservations at all. After all this is supposed to be an adventure, right?

You won't have any trouble finding campgrounds that can accommodate your trailer. We have a 30. We had a 28 before. We have never had trouble getting into a camp site. There is some big huge Airstream rally with 200 trailers happening somewhere- maybe Sarasota- maybe Alumaflamingo?
