So Cal RV spots on the Beach
Any places recommended or advised to stay clear of? I am going to take my AS down end of the week so that I can attend some seminars in LA. Thus far two places screamed at me to go to and that is Newport Dunes Resort and Mailbu RV... Looking to stay on the beach (or as close as possible) where there is somewhat of a socail crowd and things to do. Not worried about the cost of the stay as I am looking more for environment...
Thanks for any inputs!

Stayed at Newport Dune Resort last 4th of July really nice place, when you first pull in it seems more like a hotel resort and not a trailer resort, you should try to get a spot on the beach side really nice, plenty of things to do within walking distance and Disneyland is only about 30 minutes away, they probably have a web site and you should check it out and also seen it on the travel channel show, of one the ten most exspensive campgrounds in america it wasn't exspensive at all, good luck and have fun.

Jody,
Malibu Beach RV Resort has great views of the ocean but it is across PCH from the beach. If you go north about 40 miles to Ventura county ther are several places right on the beach. Some have hookups and some do not. Here is a link, look at Faria, Hobson, Rincon.

Jody,
Newport is a great resort, but i agree with the earlier post to get a spot near the bay, or on the second row, but not on the outside perimeter. The sites are pea gravel, and not always level. Bring blocks.
It is located near a nature conservation area, the "back bay".
It is a faboulous place for walking, biking, kayaking, and it has an abundance of restaurants and clubs near by.
The Hyatt Newporter is within walking distance, and they have great entertainment and Martinis. I stayed there last year for a long weekend, and they had a blues festival across the bay. They also have a website.

Jalama is a great spot, but hard to get to if you have to do business in LA.
It takes a good 45 min on a very narrow, windy road to get to it, and it usually fills up by Thursday, for the weekend.
The have some spots with power, but no water or sewer. It's a no reserve, first come basis campground. There is a small store, but it has limited supplies. The nearest grocery is about a one hour drive one way.
I go there during the week, time permitting,and it usually is not a problem gettingin, unless school's out.

I went ahead with the Newport Dunes spot. As it seems to be very close to eveything I would like to do - and because it did get nice reviews here (thanks for the feedback!)... but I will be adding the other spots to my list as well - amazing how when you do a search on the net that so many great spots end up never appearing... Karma on me

Sound like some places to add to my spreadsheet of places/campgrounds to visit. Never been to Disneyland/World - that's two and I also have a real dream to drive down to Baja, Mexico and camp. How bout that campinfans!!! Got any thoughts/beentheredonethat kind of info????!!! Leigh

When taking a US registered vehicle into Mexico you are required to get Mexican insurance. Be careful which company you select. A coworker rolled his truck and trailer in Baja and the insurance company informed him that the trailer was not on the policy.
