I think that light oak looks really sharp!

I took it in late September, but they didn't start on it until December for 2 reasons; to order the components of my order and to get in on the 10% winter discount. Obviously I could pick it up now if I wanted, but I am working in Colorado and won't get a chance to go 1200 miles to JC until late April or early May. They did a number of other upgrades/changes/maintenance, so I'll be ready to hit the road.

I was wondering if I would have seen it when I was there September 17-20.

There was another slider there the day I showed up; I think his was a 2003. Chris, the Service Mgr and his crew are the best. He always called me and asked for approval if there was something different that cropped up or if he ran into another issue. The setup we have now on our Slider is about as good as I can make it; no more room for any other goodies.

Your flooring looks great! I love the color!

Last summer, I had mine changed out to a tan coin-head rubber material, with a 1/8" of compressed foam under it at JC service center. The material is a single piece and is used as flooring in garages. It's traffic rated so no worries about the side-out marring it. I had the guys at JC seal the sub-flooring, so with this rubber above it's really water-proof. I can walk in with my waders on and go back to the shower take them off and hang them up to dry.

I'll have to post some photos once it's out of storage.

Can you tell me about your gaucho couch/bed? I really need to upgrade mine. It is like trying to sleep on a bowling alley, I always (or who ever is sleeping there) end up in the gutter.

Thanks.

Slideout Locks

How do the slide locks work on a 2002 Classic 30 SO? Are they electric, or manually placed locking bars?

I saw some videos that show electric locks with magnetic blocks, but the 2002 manual seems to indicate that they are electric on the 34 and manual on the others.

Thanks,

Al

The one we are looking at does not have the electric latches.

That would be surprising as all the early era S/O trailers I have seen have the same mechanism which is electric driven paddles and magnetic blocks.

I think the 28s do. The 2002 Classic manual says only the 34 has the electric and the others have manual. I looked at the slide in the out position and there are no visible paddles. Look here: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f252...sic-47113.html post 12. I think the later Classics have the paddles, but apparently not the early ones.

Classic 30 S/O Manual Slide Locks

Can anyone who has an early (2001, 2002) Classic 30 or other S/O trailer with the manual locks comment on the manual slide locks with respect to easy of installation and how well they hold the slide in place during travel?

Thanks,

Al

We have a 2002 (late 2001) and it has the manual slide locks. They have adjustments on them to insure a tight lock. I have added a few wraps of duck tape on the part of the lock that attaches to the slide. Don't know if there was anything on that area before we bought the AS as a second owner, but the duck tape seems to hold better over the road than metal to metal.

Structural Question

As I previously posted, we are looking at a 2002 30 Classic SO. I am curious as to how the slide is supported. On the slide alignment thread I saw a post that said the slide is sort of balanced on the roller/gear assembly at the outside of the frame rail when partially rolled in. I understand that earlier models had rollers on the bottom of the slide and later models had rollers on the trailer floor to support the part of the slide that is inside the frame.

The rollers on the slide could be at the inside edge and would support the inside part of the slide when retracted as well as when extended. For the rollers on the floor versions, is the slide then cantilevered from the floor rollers to the inside edge?

In either case, what supports the load of the slide and persons' weight that is outside the frame when the slide is out? Does the top of the slide on the inside of the trailer bear against the wall/ceiling of the trailer to provide that support? Most of that weight is outside the roller/gear assembly.

I'm sure I'll understand it better when I see one, but I'm trying to get prepared for my first look at this hopefully new to me trailer.

Thanks,

Al

The slide mechanism was built by Power Gear, 1217 E. 7th Street Mishawaka, Indiana 46544. (1-800-334-4712)

You may get greater clarity, or actual diagrams, from the manufacturer for your particular year model.

Meanwhile, you can see a diagram of the 2003 model on page I-4 at this URL:http://www.airstream.com/wp-content/...lassic2003.pdf
