Short Tour of Louisiana
We are about to point the airstream deep into east texas; lake livingston state park; martin dies jr state park headed into the bayou state with an interim stop at sam houston jones state park near lake charles.
The legendary Betty's rv park at abbeville is the first major destination of this trip.
Any cajun streamers out there??????
We have not really planned the trip further than Betty's but may head towards
Baton Rouge and then follow the river road (up the mississippi) for a while.
We have an appointment April 10th to celebrate the 97th birthday of my aunt in west arkansas which is our trip driver at the monent and the louisiana trek is just the beginning of a new adventure

Are you interested in north or south louisiana? There is a difference. I was born and raised around Shreveport if that's where your interest is.

Just curious, where in west Arkansas does your aunt live? I grew up in western AR.
You might consider turning west at the Arkansas River and swinging through Little Rock on the way.

Hi guys!
You will love SE Texas, much more green and trees. The area from Beaumont north along the LA line is especially pretty, and the NF's and SP's great for camping. Nacogdoches, TX is a very cool place, bills itself as the oldest town in TX, lots of historic buildings and antique shops.
We have just left there, did a quick trip into LA to visit Natchitoches, one of our favorite areas, are in Kisatchie NF for a few days before we meet fellow campers from WA in Beaumont for the weekend. Gulf Coast RV resort there is one of the nicest PA cg's we've found. We'll be there Fri, Sat & Sun, if you want to join us---have to head home on Monday.
As for Louisiana, we absolutely love the Natchitoches and Cane River area, SE of Shreveport off 49, where there are grand old antebellum homes and wonderful historic sites to visit. It has a beautiful, restored riverfront main street, an old Mercantile with interesting items and some good restaurants. Nakatosh cg is unexciting but clean and well-maintained, reasonably priced and close to town.
The Plantation Road on the MS river north of Baton Rouge is worth a couple of days, and St Francisville in that area is beautiful.
We have a marginal signal right now, am afeared to try to link you to the Louisiana Road Trip rally thread---from last year, that didn't happen---but if you look it up there are LA links pasted and pictures.
Redbud and tulip trees are in bloom down here, it is green and very spring like.
Travel safe and connect up with us if you like. Would love to see you.
Maggie

We enjoyed the Jetty Pier RV Park,799 Davis Road, Cameron, La 7063-Phone 337-775-5718.-A beautiful park with plenty of water birds including white pelicans. A new park in super condition. Plenty of fresh seafood and fishing opportunities. Also Holly Beach RV Park, 2249 Mallard St. Cameron,La is supposed to be nice although we haven't been to that one yet. Tel. 337-536-9824.
Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, La. (just 20 miles N. of I-10 east of Lake Charles). This has got to be one of the finest RV parks in the nation (cement pull throughs with FHP including cable TV). Very reasonably priced. Shuttles to the Casino from the RV park. Roving security. Opportunities for your RV space to be comped with players club card and casino action. You can book your RV space through the Casino Hotel 1-888-774-7263.
Enjoy, Pat

Well, I know your destination area. I grew up in Paris, about 18-20 miles further east down Highway 22 from Charleston. Nice location. The river on the north and the mountains on the south.
Enjoy!

Go Eagles.
I saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at the drive in, along with many others. When Butch and Sundance was showing, they ran out of speakers and places to park. We had to walk around till we found someone we knew and watch in their car.
I work at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) in the College of Business. Recently I met a manager from Chesapeake Energy with the same name as the owners of the Paris drive in. Turns out the owners were his grandparents.
There's not a trace left of the old drive in. everything has reverted to nature.
While we're cheering teams on, UALR's basketball teams won the Sunbelt Conference yesterday and are moving on the NCAA tournament. That's teams, both men's and women's teams won their championships. Go Trojans, too!

If you depart Baton Rouge and wander north, consider a stop in Vidalia...
The Finest RV Park on the Mighty Mississippi
then day trip across the river into Natchez...Horse Carrage rides, Fat Mamas for lunch...You may catch the spring bloom in full force!
We will be there in a couple of weeks!

Lafayette is the heart of Cajun country; lots of good food, take a day trip down to Avery Island (think Tabasco!) to tour the plant, visit the Ronrico rice plant, get lots of boudain and buckets of crawdads.
Visit the Atchafalaya Basin. eat, drink, sleep.

We have just left Louisiana. Be aware that they have taken on the Reserve America contract which allows them to assess a $6 fee for walkins as well as reservations. Booooo---hisssssssss!
Kisatchie NF is nice and also cheap. You may also find PA campgrounds cheaper than the state parks there.
Travel safe,
Maggie

movin along in Louisiana
well we had sunday night and this morning to ourselves at the sam houston jones park and it is beautiful...the swamps and bayous are great, many beautiful trails within the park.
headed down to the coastline and followed LA 82 along the coast and into Abbeville...would not want to be there in a hurricane.
we have arrived at the legendary betty's rv park in abbeville and attended happy hour presided over by none other than betty, who is a wonderful host...great place and abbeville and surrounding areas are quite scenic...tomorrow we explore more, including avery island.......hot sauce
