Short review on Petit Jean State Park-Arkansas

Just returned from a week at Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas. This is a nice park. Clean, well kept and easy to get to. Tall pines fill the park and surrounding landscape and camping is adjacent to a small lake. The camp sites all feature paved slips, picnic tables, lantern hangers, ground fire pits and elevated cookout units. Nice, clean public restrooms with showers for those who don't have facilities on board. We encountered a full park on our arrival on Friday but by Sunday night all were gone except for a couple of campers, then we had the place to ourselves for the mid week stay. Quiet and peaceful. A migration of Canadian geese settled in around our camp on day 3. Bring firewood with you if you plan on having a campfire. We camped next to a couple who had a 1973 Airstream. It was good to see a trailer that old out on the road still being enjoyed.

We camped at Petit Jean last year and really enjoyed it. Really nice campground as very friendly people. We had dinner one night in the lodge and it was wonderful. Many miles of beautiful hiking trails. Anyone passing through Central Arkansas should take the time for a night or two. It is a very popular place so reservation are a good idea if you want a spot close to the lake.
