Shenandoah National Park

We are taking a trip there soon.

Any recommendations/suggestions for "don't miss this" things to see or do in the area?

Thanks

Definitely get in some hiking. My personal favorites in the Park are Old Rag, Mary’s Rock, Stony Man and Hawksbill Mt. (http://blog.virginia.org/2016/06/must-do-hikes/). If you do Old Rag on any nice weekend, it WILL be crowded. Blackrock Summit is nice in the southern end.

For camping in the park - https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm

We have stayed at these 3 RV parks nearby the park more than once:
Shenandoah River SP has water and electric with a dump station very nice http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-pa...al_information
Yogi Bear’s Jellystone at Luray, great for kids
Luray KOA

Luray Caverns is a great place to spend a rainy day, very nice auto museum there as well.
It staying in Luray and want a nice hike closeby, then check out Kennedy Peak in GW NF!

Of course there is a lot of Civil War stuff to see and do around here as well.

Go to the Grand Caverns also. Liked it better than Luray, although the automobile museum was awesome. There is a military museum in Verona that was impressive. If you like antiques, there is a great antigue mall right off the exit at Verona as well. We stayed at the KOA at Verona and kayaked down the river. If you will have kids with you, it is also a great place to stay with lots of friendly rabbits.

Whatever you decide to do, you will enjoy!
