sharing some pics from my long weekend in California's High Sierra

https://flic.kr/s/aHskFW1CSG

LOVED this experience my second outing and first towing up to 8,000ft. The 2010 Tundra 5.7 performed like a champ .. 50mph up hill no worries but only 10-12 mpg or less probably .. gas is cheap right now so 500 miles / ($2.80 in Cali) it's still a bargain.

Lower Blue Lakes is not an RV/ large trailer campground, backing in was a little nerve-wracking, with just a foot or so each side on the way in ... not for nervous drivers.

High Sierra

Beautiful photos. Looks like you had fun. We hiked the John Muir Trail for my 50th birthday (actually took 20 days). So beautiful at 8,000ft to 14,500ft! However, a bit inhospitable to humans most of the year. Gloriously clear skies. Looks like you took family?

oh, that's VERY impressive ... my wife wants to do that but not sure my hips & feet would last more than a few days How many miles per day roughly ? Yep, just my boys .... they're almost getting over the camping thing ... we've used my popup for years and driven all over the Sierra. It's a magical place ... so blessed only a "few" hrs drive from where I live... traffic here is so bad, can be 5hrs + now ...

Great photos, especially the shots across the lake! Bonus? Our favorite potato chips!

Thanks,

Peter

Wow, great pics. In college during summer break and living in the Bay Area I used to backpack to the Meiss Lake/Upper Truckee River out of the Red lake trail head/88 (last bend before the pass). The view S for the Carson Pass trail was of Kirkwood and apparently Blue Lakes. I'd never back backed S bound from that trail head and never looked that closely at the map until now. I've also never been over 88 by auto either, approaching SLT via 50.

Hwy 88/4(lake Alpine)/108(Strawberry Lake) to name a few all offer alpine camping opportunities.

Thanks for sharing....and getting the memories and inspiration going.

Bob

Thanks for sharing the photos. We are very close to finishing our renovation of our 1971 31' Sovereign. You've inspired us to get it done.
