Shakedown Run - New FC 30

Hi everyone,

Well, we picked up our new 2012 Flying Cloud 30 from the dealer on Wednesday. I went directly from the dealer to a local county park where I managed to get (late) reservations for two nights - unfortunately everything was booked over the weekend starting today, so two nights was it for now. Everything went well, and our 2012 Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8 towed just fine, including up some steep NW hills. I went with an Equalizer hitch/sway control setup.

We have almost the same setup. I have the same Tundra and a 2012 Flying Cloud 25ft
FB. Absolutely love the combo -just redid the interior in sunny yellow, blk/wht accents and removed the big table, wrapping the couch around the back. Having so much fun and know you will too! This is a great group of people.

Just curious, Orson, but why would you redo a brand new Airstream?

Why re-do a brand new AS?

Because I was given four color choices, all of which I didn't like. I had to choose one so----after staring at brown, brown and then brown I needed it to change. Also they used two different colored fabrics on the seats. Even with the small amount of use, the place where the two colors came together began to waver (became uneven). Since the long couch is the first thing one sees, upon opening the door, was a wavy line. Was brginning to look down right awful. Having been in the fabric business, I can tell you that this was not a high quality fabric -I replaced it with Sunbrella. Thank you for asking. Besides you are dead a long time and I wanted a little more sizzle. Orson

Interesting comment on the fabric. My interior decorator (spouse) did not like the two-fabric combo on the cushions for the dinette either. (We got the recliner option, so didn't have the situation with the sofa.) Her solution was to trade out the fabric cushions for the cream-colored ultraleather, which looks much better. The dealer threw that swap into the deal as part of the overall package. It does look nice.

Ultra Leather

Wish I had the Ultra Leather, but will haveto wait until I have some wear and tear on the Sunbrell. Besides the couch still isn't perfect as far as comfort. That big curved bolster near the door needs to be a bit thinner -easy fix. Orson

Thanks Orson and Dana. Yes, we got the recliner option because it was significantly more comfortable or my bad back, and it's worked out fine.

As far as the Tundra/AS combo, it is working very well. We now have 3,000 miles on the trailer from two 3-week-long trips, and the Tundra pulls great. I'll be doing a cross-country-and-back trip this fall, planned mileage around 8,000, so trailer and tow vehicle will get a big workout on that trip...!

Did you buy your rig through Sutton RV? Curious because they sent us to a park for a shake down. Great place. Orson

Tundra - 30' Flying Cloud

We love this combo! Great tow vehicle equipped with Pro Pride Hitch. We don't even know the AS is following us.
