Shakedown Cruise

Well we got the new FC23FB and this week is a shakedown cruise around Fl prior to the trip to New England starting next month. We went down the East coast to south of South Palm Beach, most of it on US 1 and A1A. Nights were in rest areas, WalMarts and Truck stops running the 2 Honda 2k's for AC et al. Then we went to the west coast and are starting home, but are taking a few days in an RV park north of Tampa a bit to relax and soak up some sunshine. Everything is going smooth and we are very happy with the rig so far.

Good to hear things went well on the first outing.

Good luck on the NE trip.

Just wondering how you secure your Honda's when at a rest area, when you are sleeping? Do you leave them in the bed of the truck or place them on the ground when they are running? Chain or cable lock them?
I haven't bought any generators yet, but I can see the advantage of getting a few hours sleep in an air conditioned trailer while traveling and stopping for a few winks.

They sit pulled out on the down tailgate, and the bed cover lid is closed so bed contents are weather protected while the gen sets have room to breathe. In use or not, they are always tethered to a built in padeye in the bed with a 3/8 inch cable and padlock. That keeps them from wandering away. If'n its raining, I can set them on the asphalt under the down tailgate and that will work fairly well as they are suppose to be weatherproof. From the outside, day or nite, you can't tell if'n someone is looking out of the front windows. A scavenger would have to have a set of brass ones to risk it, not knowing the personality of the owner.

Thanks, I agree about brass ones, but you never know. I like the way you use the tailgate. Someday I may do the same when I get my generators.

We recall our first shakedown curise with fond memories. A great learning experience for us all I presume. Have a great time on future trips across our great land!
