Shakedown Cruise

We took our new AS out for it's shakedown cruise this weekend.

Came across some minor things but overall, very please with the AS

Issues:
In-line fuse to power jack was weak and blew
Leak with squirter hose in galley kitchen set
No WASTE/DUMP hose (OUR BAD)
Small area in one of the wheel wells that wasn't undercoated

Issues with the Campground:
No Fuses
No Ice
Just yards from I-81

Having gone from an International 22' to a Safari 27FBSE wasn't as big a deal as I feared. Definately heavier. Definately longer but actually toad with less jumpyness. Like the bigger fridge/freezer, queen bed, separate comode and shower, AV package, TONS of storage. Four Stabilizers instead of two and the tongue jack.

Future stuff:
Cover to block out light in the Bedroom that comes through the Fantastic Fan cover.
Mount the TP holder

Congratulations on your new trailer, and sorry about the campground. It looks as if your issues on its first trip are minor, and I hope they stay that way. Just keep pen & paper handy for the next two years. This would be a good time to go around and torque the tire lug nuts, if you haven't already done so.

Congratulations on getting Arvin our there. That's the only way to work out the bugs.

Safe Travels,

Wow, I'm impressed the shower door didn't leak...

My 2004, 2006 and my 2008 both needed to get caulked. Ended up replacing the bedroom wall (by the shower) due to the water pooled BEHIND, with the tight fit no water leaked out until we happened to LOOK for it based on previous experience.

Good job on whomever PDI'ed your unit before you bought it. I expected a larger list that what you have!

Congrats on your new AS! Those tongue lift fuses are fussy. if you throw the lift swich in the opposite direction a little too soon (before the motor winds down completetly) you'll blow it.

I had a 99 f150 5.4L supercab that I towed my 04 28ft CCD with. You're probably very close to your tow capacity. be careful with that transmission.

Hi KStampa,

In '04, Ford changed the 5.4 motor to 3 valves per cylinder and the performance went up significantly. It's rated at 305 HP and a figure close to that for torque (Old age is settling in so I can't remember the exact #)

The tranny was a concern so I've got a cooler for it. Thanks for the suggestion to watch it.

Sounds like you had a good time. Is the extra interior space vs the longer trailer a good trade off for you?

Hi Janet,
100% worth the extra weight and $$$'s for the room. We're the type who keep things 'forever' so this AS will be with us for a couple of decades.

We're hoping eventually to be able to spend 6 months on the road and work 6 months. That's the plan. Time will tell.
