I always leave it hooked up at the campsite even if the gray tank valve is closed. Why not?

Funny, someone making me wait unnecessarily has the opposite effect on me, I move even faster. I I guess I don't want the people behind me to think I'm no better than the guy ahead of me.

It would be nice if people would read the entire thread before making comments about a single post.

Seldom stay in Campgrounds and have only the Sewer Solution. Pretty much trouble free except for the O ring on the quick disconnect cracked once in 5 years. I keep a spare. Dump times don't appear to be a problem but then our total capacity, black and grey, is 24 gallons.

I have a quick question for those with the Sewer Solution product -- I've seen youtube videos of a Y-connector setup to allow for both sewer solution hookup and black tank flush hookup. I am curious if running both lines simultaneously creates a significant drop of pressure to cause "issues" in effective maceration capability of the primary dump line?

I have to say that it depends on the water pressure at the dump location. I have never had an issue doing just that, but typically I do not run both lines at the same time. I typically will divert the water either to the internal rinse system or to the SS.

We have been using the Sewer Solution exclusively for the past eight years, and we have spent almost 1,400 nights in our Airstreams during that time. We have never experienced any problem with a pressure drop to the Sewer Solution supply hose from the Y connector.

I've been using the as now for a short time - the pressure seemed fine with both - but the - it's annoying how slow it takes to dump - especially when you need to flush the black tank a couple times - but it's doable and it's nice it's all flushed out easy and clean when done - and I don't have to fiddle with the grade of the tubing and such - it can go uphill a bit too

I will be trying the rhino sewer hose next trip for my own direct comparison

This may be due to solids forming mini dams at the dump valve. I find it goes much faster if I turn the jet 90 degrees and let it back flush a bit any time it looks like it might be slowing. I do not use the sewer solution to back flush the tank when it has emptied. I use the tank sprayer built into the trailer at times augmented with water down the toilet from the flush valve. However you may end up finding that the only remedy for the annoyance is patience.

Once I'm satisfied the tank is rinsed, I close the valve and back flush the plumbing between the valve and pipe end a bit with the sewer solution.

My prediction is you will find the regular sewer hose a stinky gross operation compared to the sewer solution.

We carry a slinky for quick gray water dumps at a community dump station. I would never want to dump black water through a slinky again.

Keep in mind, my AS has a macerator pump just below the toilet to send the waste to the black tank....stuff comes out pretty ....well....macerated...but ill have to try that back flush idea....

I dont doubt that I will want to stick to the sewer solution....overall despite my slight impatience...its been good...

Last time the area of the quick disconnect was leaking quite a bit...I think something needs to be tightened...

I also like that I dont have to worry about keeping the gray water for a final flush....

My qd leaks, too. If I hold the hose level, it does not leak making me think that the qd is just poorly made. Bit it is fresh water so I have ignored it.

I tossed the stinky slinky after one use. Getting all of the detrius out of the inside of the thing was time consuming.

I fulltime so I have a different view than people who go out for a couple of days then store the unit for a week or two.

To be totally frank - If the contents of the black tank is either stirred or shaken or well fermented or you just start out with 2 gallons of water dumped into it - there are virtually NO solids. As for the gray tank, it can get some serious funky soap scum, garbage bits from the sink, and other misc. DNA samples. Second - given the prior statement, if it's just "manure tea" there is no real need to use the water powered mascerator.

When I leave a campground I normally drain my gray tank, then add in about 2 gallons of "wash the tank water". Unless I've been parked for a long time I don't dump the black tank on departure. Just make sure there is plenty of warm water in it.

Whenever I pull into a campground - that's when I dump the black tank and the two gallons in the gray tank. Scrubbing bubbles, see? The contents of both are well shaken AND stirred. I use the tank rinsers on the black tank. I almost NEVER hook up a hose to the SS mascerator. If I'm in a camping place with sewer hookups, I just let my gray water drain down the SS all the time, except in freezing weather when I close the gate and drain it daily.

I don't worry about having either tank pristine. I'll be using both again within hours. As for using the SS at a dump station to drain a gray tank - well when I have no hookups its full at 4 days if I don't use a shower house. I'll jump in line at the dump station without a second's hesitation to drain the gray tank. Since I don't hook up the water mascerator it's exactly the same hookup procedure as a slinky. Drain time when there's no toilet paper or other solids, isn't all that slow, and rinsing an SS? A gallon of clear water will do that, then drop it in it's box and hi-ho silver, away.

I don't own a slinky.

As for a downhill run, the straighter the slinky the faster it runs, when it's got three full coils that slows it down. As long as the gate is higher than the sewer's intake port, no problem.

Oh, and I've occasionally been in a campground with a water and electric site that is right across or next to a full hookup site. Satan whispers in my ear. I have 3 ten foot sections of that green one inch hose, and on a moonless night, who would notice if the hose moved across the lawn instead of the silver trailer going to the dump station? (I've not actually ever stayed at a water/electric spot long enough to succumb to the temptation to use "thy neighbors sewer", but it does seem silly the way campgrounds are set up.) With water and electric only, you pay less, and use the dump station for free - with a blue boy or moving the trailer once a week, you use it as often as you need. So, is using an adjacent sewer really any different than using the dump station?

On the other side of the argument - it does cost a LOT to build and maintain miles of sewer lines through hundreds of campsites, so someone has to cover those expenses. I do have full hookups most of the time, and when I dump, first it is the black tank, then the gray tanks. I normally "flush-bomp" four or five bowls full of hot water down the toilet AFTER the black tank is emptied. I run the kitchen faucet while the gray tank finishes draining.

Even if you aren't fulltiming, if you can dump at home or a business cleanout - perhaps THAT is the place to really get the tanks spotless. You can even run the mascerator with a big bucket of water, and a water pump that pumps water from the bucket in through the SS.

Simple.
Let's keep it that way,

Paula

I still use the stinky slinky. They never really last very long. A couple of years and they start to develop leaks.
Is the Sewer Solution more durable/last longer?
I gather by some posts that maybe it does.

The only reason I bought a new one with the EB was that I left the old one with the wreck. I did NOT want to ship it home with my clothing and pots & pans. My first one lasted five years FULLTIMING. I had a bit of cracking around the part that attaches to the trailer. Sunlight will degrade any plastic a bit and mine might have frozen too. Weekending you might easily get double that. And the new one screws into the sewer drain pipe - with graduated sizes to fit different diameters of PVC.

My Sewer Solution is eight years old and has probably had more than a thousand dumps through it.

Could you define that a little bit more?

Is that dumps as measured deposited at the top of the tank, or dumps as in number of times the tank has been emptied?
