I'm watching this thread for political content, some already deleted. Please keep to the topic, and do not allow your fingers to wander into side-taking politics.

I wish the sequestration had happened before the NPS "took over" the Pearson Air Museum in Vancouver WA. This power grab by the Park Service has deprived the public of a well run and enjoyable part of aviation history in the Pacific Northwest,
If they had fewer busybodies trying to build little empires we would not have lost access to these valuable historic artifacts and archives.

We're planning a trip very soon which will take us to a number of Nation Parks, Monuments, and Historic Sites. The latter two tend to be unattended places to begin with, but it will be interesting to see what is posted there regarding the sequester. At least one of the stops will be to a NHP that we have visited numerous times before so we should be able to discern the effect.

curious

Just wondering out loud here. What do you suppose the fees ( entrance, camping etc ) would be if the parks were to become self sufficient and thereby exempt from being hostage to politics?

State Parks

State parks should be the last thing cut, IMO. They could start by turning off the 30 parking lot lights at the school next to me, they go all night with no one around. Make them motion sensored if a few must work. Thats a savings and reduction on white noise. I love State parks, that's were I spend almost all my vacation time.

Do state parks receive Federal money? I know Arkansas voters allocated money for the park system a few years ago and they are putting it to good use there. They along with many other states operate on a balanced budget. Of course I don't really know where the money really goes.....

This article suggests that National Parks are not only self sufficient, they show a profit
