Segway X2-SE and Airstream Intl. 19?
Hi Folks,
We have just puchased a 2012 Intl. 19 in new condition and are getting it set up for our spring trip. (We have previously owned a 16 Anniversary and a 22 Safari.) We are towing it with a 2015 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition. Bed has a RollBak cover on it.
Now, I have a degenerative neurological disease. This disease comes with a Handicap Placard. Problem is there are days where I just have a difficult time walking, thus I bought a new Segway X2-SE. Plan is to use it to continue my life long passion of Landscape photography. I prefer to be "entertained" by this disease rather than resticted.
Now, it would be very helpful to take the Segway with us BUT the truck hitch receiver is taken by the Airstream (we previously put our Segway lift/carrier (SegVator) in the hitch and would wander in the truck with the Segway on the tail.
From all I've read, putting a hitch on the back of the Airstream 19 is not a good idea - put's too much weight behind the trailer axel. Segway X2-SE weight is about 120 lbs.
Has anyone found a good way to take something like the Segway with us?
I'm sure some cleaver rascal has already addressed this issue and I'm anxious to learn!

I think this might be your answer, from Harbor Freight…
If you've got someplace to attach a sling swivel, you can use the hoist to lift the Segway into and out of the pickup bed, then fold away the hoist and pull the Rollbak cover over it.

Saw this in Trailer Life...it's a hitch rack with a support wheel(s) to support the weight.
The ultimate single wheel trailer system.

Took a while but I found the item:
1/2 Ton Capacity Pickup Truck Crane
Seems like an excellent solution IF it will fit in my truck bed. Will call Harbor Freight to get dimensions; height under truck bed side wall top lip, then measure to be sure it will fit.
Also need to make sure the Segway, laid flat, will let the RollBak to clear it and close. If so, the tailgate has a lock so it will also be a great way to secure the Segway from thief when traveling as compared to being in the open.
I've never seen anything like it in a truck bed.
Thanks!

Reckon where they got the '73-'86 GM pickup in the picture? Or is it a 30 year old pic?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Owned a '73 3/4T 2WD with a compound low stump-puller 4-speed manual. Plain-jane truck, strong as a thousand camels in the courtyard.
Modern trucks are built of sheet metal that's a lot thinner, and I'd worry about stressing the bed without a stout backing plate. Wonder if it comes with one...

Maybe a front mounted receiver on your TV could solve the problem. I have hauled bicycles this way.

I've hauled my X2 with me for several years in the bed of my F150 super crew. I use 2 2"x6" boards for ramps. By starting up the Segway and running it by hand (I do not ride it up into the bed, IOW) it loads and unloads itself with its own power. All I do is guide it. I stow the two boards in the slots in the sidewall of the bed where they also serve as a barrier to keep my tool box and generator from sliding forward. (Side note: my X2 is for sale if you need another one)

That's certainly the simplest. Assume you walked up the boards behind the Seg?
I went to Harbor Freight yesterday and noted they had a nice selection of ramps that seem to be secure to ground and truck tailgate - afraid a board might slip?

No! I'm no thrill rider! I stand on the ground holding the Segway's handlebar in my hand and "walk" it up the boards, using the Segway's power, til it's on the tailgate where I switch it off with my Bluetooth controller, lay it down and roll it forward into its transport position. The ramp is pretty steep from level ground. The boards are only as long as the width of the bed. Too short and steep to walk on. To unload, I stand on the ground, pull the Segway out on the tailgate, stand it up, turn it on then tap the footrest with my hand to start it up, then merely guide it up onto the boards (they are 2" boards so there's a little threshold to overcome) and just hold the handlebar back enough to break its forward motion and let it "walk" itself down.
About board slippage.......I drilled a small hole in the boards at the tailgate end and into the tailgate lip for a nail (8p). I just slip the hail in and the boards stay put nicely.

Am curious as to what you ended up doing with your Segvator?
