Seeking Route Mapping with Elevations- Ideas?

I'm pulling out of Charleston, WV tomorrow a.m. and was wondering if there's a map program on-line that could help me avoid the steeper elevation pulls to get back to Baltimore. I got over the mountains with no problem, but only got 7-8mpg and thought maybe avoiding the big hills might save money on gas - even if it were a little further to travel. Any thoughts on either the map program or a better, flatter route back to BMore e.g. I64 to I81 vs. I79 to I68-70??

3 options, to north to Morgantown, across 68 to I70...mountains but not too steep
go up to Clarksburg, across US 50, again, mountains, not so steep
go down to Beckley, across 64-down one of the steepest grades in the East, take 64East to I-81 in Staunton VA, then North on 81 then east on 70...
anyway you go you will have mountains...

Google Maps has a terrain button that gives elevation contours. It's up to you at that point to seek out your best route.

Good Sam Club used to have terrific trip routes that showed the road steepness and other options but sadly, they have changed their service and I miss it! Am anxious to see what others may know.

West Virginia and hills is like the desert and sand. Not much you can do about that.

Try this link: Gmaps Pedometer

It's not the easiest thing, or the prettiest thing, or the nicest thing. But you can calculate elevation gain based on your preferences and a little double-clicking.

I took Rt 50 West from Winchester, VA through the WVA mountains and would not do it again. Many steep pulls and downs with 15mph hairpins at the bottoms. I realize this is late for the initial question, but post this for future use.
