Seaside, FL Airstreams

My family was visiting Seaside, FL recently and noticed a row of 5 or 6 Airstreams along the main strip. Man, there are some nice ones there and I couldn't quite figure this one out. I walked around it and couldn't find any markings or serial numbers but obviously they've modified it from it's original design. Has anyone else been down there to see these gems? We kicked back at the park and ate some sushi while enjoying the site. A must see for any Airstream lover.

Seaside Airstreams

I have been travelling to Seaside for the past 14 years and have always admired the Airstream vendors. Maybe that is why I recently became an owner. Now that I own an Airstream I will have to stay over in Grayton Beach State Park and ride my bike over to Seaside. It will certainly be cheaper than the house rentals. I am sure someone will know the vintage of that trailer. All I know is that they serve the best shaved ice around.

I live about fives west of Seaside. Here are a few photos that I took when they were setting the Airstreams up in April of 2009.

Gotta love that. Seaside is cool though not my style (or affordability for that matter) but I will go by next time I am down there to see this and partake.

when the FIRST stream pictured in post #1 was the only steam in seaside...

it DID look cool, grass skirts and surf boards and so on.

NOW however the 6 trailers strung across the front of the city center...

look TRASHY and not in a good way.

70s junk trailers with foil on the windows or reflective glass being used as SMOKERS for the bbq biz from colorado...

and the bbq isn't very good either, don't waste yer money on it.

i'm all for kitch' and cool trash, but 4 of the 6 trailers out there now are disgusting looking up close AND inside.

they've got a variety of THINGS attached to the outside with steer screws and hardware store parts...

so there is rust and crud and corrosion and plastic pipes and rubber hoses and so on...
___________

seaside in general looks pretty beat up this year.

many houses NEED paint and many pieces of trim in the picture perfect village aren't picture perfect anymore...

i discussed this with a local architect, local residents and real estate folks this winter and they all agreed.

the economic trough has hit many resort/2nd home areas and seaside has taken a hit in the "pretty" department.
___________

now for the average red neck or blue color or nostalgia head...

and at "the 100 foot view" like a lotta old junkers...

those run down streams MIGHT look cool for an hour or 2...

but everyday/all day and as REGULAR planting in seaside they are eyesores...

it's a great example of 1=cool,

but 6x1=something else.

cheers

When I visit Seaside I am there for only a few hrs anyway so I guess I'm not too bothered by them. I suppose if I lived there I might view it a little different. Still, in my original post I was hoping to get a better idea of the little airstream that sells the shaved ice. It almost looks like it was cut down and put back together...who knows really.

there are several threads on THAT unit here with the exact details...

it's a cali built 50s unit (whale tail, 13 panel) and hasn't been shortened.

it's a clipper, cruisette, bubble, wanderer, pacer, or "no name" 18 ftr.

somthing in that mid 50s series of short units.

hard to tell exactly because of the vendor windows tacked on the streetside...

and the badly chopped up door/window on the curb side.

the strange, TALL ac unit topside makes it appear shorter than it really is.

with so many small signs screwed into the skin, i don't recall IF their was a model/serial number badge.

the 'route 66' sign screwed to the front is the nicest slab of skin on it...

cheer

I saw that Airstream and another Sushi one when we were there a couple of times a few years ago. We were excited to see Airstream cafes in the square and I was taken with the itty bitty one too, Here's a few of my shots. Didn't they have dollar bills inside the small Aistream on the ceiling?
