Saulte Ste Marie to Winnipeg

Going from Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay end of May and continuing on to Winnipeg. So far haven't found much info, particularly on the Winnipeg leg. Would you take hwy 17 or hwy 11 and then up to 17? Refueling opportunities between Thunder Bay and Dryden plentiful?

Also good place to base camp and leave the trailer before taking the ferry to Mackinac Island would be appreciative.

Have never been in Northern Michigan or Lake Superior, so any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Pat
