San Diego - Yuma - Lake Mead - Las Vegas trip

Will be in San Diego for the holidays and am planning a return trip to Reno through Arizona following the Colorado river north. Am looking for route suggestions, campgrounds, possible fishing locations and 'must-see' attractions. Dry camping is more our style however we will also consider RV parks depending on location, weather and schedule. First time travelling this area in our lifted 30' Classic and plan to make another trip to Lake Mead and the Grand Canyon in the Spring. Thank you for your guidance and recommendations.

Sounds like you will be travelling US-95. There are many places to dry camp along that route. Lots of BLM (Bureau of Land Management). You can get the details from the BLM regional office in Yuma. Along 95 you pass through Quartzsite - lots of BLM there; as well Q is the mother of all fleamarkets. Further north I have stayed at "the steps", which is now AZ state trust land, at Lake Havasu City. 95 will take you into Las Vegas, and I've stayed several times at Lake Meade National Recreation Area, specifically at Lake Las Vegas campground.

Enjoy!

Several years ago we stayed overnight on New Years Eve at a casino on the Colorado River in Arizona. Not certain, but I think it was Bluewater Resort and Casino. There must have been 50 RV's in a couple of parking lots and it was one of the best New Years parties I've been to. I would definitely check that place out again. It's located about a half hour south of Lake Havasu City.
