San Diego area park?

We'll be heading west soon, will be on the road for at least three months, would like to stay a week or so in the San Diego area, hav e looked through Woodall's but haven't seen a park that has really turned me on. Wondering if anyone has any reccomendations for a park in that area...

A friend stays at Chula Vista RV Resort and she loves it, though we haven't stayed there yet. It is pricey, but that's San Diego. It borders a bay and has a couple seafood restaurants right there at the dock. Here's the link:

Post back after you've stayed in San Diego to give us the scoop on where you decide to stay and how you liked it.

Reserveamerica.com go to California it lists state sites. Our coast of Calif is very special and many places to stay and have a room with a view. Good luck!

Here is another RV park in San Diego / Pacific Beach Campland On The Bay, San Diego Camping, RV, Tents, Hookups it is a little pricey, another one is here South Carlsbad SB however no hook-ups, they do have a dump station, sites on the bluff are the best, great sunsets, dolphins swim by daily a little beyond the surf and at times they surf the waves. Alittle north of San Diego is another nice spot http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=646 Good Luck!!

You have to be careful where campland wants to put you. They put me in a "31ft" site I fit but if the site across from had not beeen empty I would not have been able to get in or out. The road way between the sites is too narrow for a large rig. I was in the LMNOP row area. I vote state parks they are nice and they need all the money they can get.

Federal places in San Diego?

What is the closest federal campground to San Diego? I mean one where you can use your Golden Access card.

Fed Forest Service campgrounds nearby include all Cleveland National Forest campgrounds.
Laguna Mountains rec area is about 45 miles east of San Diego. Either Burnt Rancheria or Laguna lake campgrounds are about 8 miles North of the I-8 on S-1.
Normal prices are about 14 per day, no hook-ups, closest dump is at Buckman springs on I-8.
Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies, will look over all the places mentioned...Size of sites is important, we have a 34 footer.. There's a lot of places it doesn't fit..

several years ago we stayed at the santee lakes campground. full hookup sites and can easily accomodate large rigs. it is owned and operated by the water district. very nice and clean. perfect area--not any noise from interstate or highway traffic. web site Santee Lakes - San Diego Area Camping phone 619-596-3141. we were parked next to the water and late at night the bull frogs would start. these frogs were huge!! bigger than our yorkie who fell into the water. at night they lock the gate so you have to use a code to enter or exit. can't remember the rate we paid but it was very reasonable. don't think you would be disapointed. good luck on your trip.

We stayed at Santee Lakes for an Airstream Rally just this last weekend. It is nice with some sites right at water's edge. Costco about a mile away, lots of eating places nearby.

Have stayed at Campland a dozen times. You would need a pull-through. The back-in sites are too small for you and every other one has the hookups on the wrong side. Campland is right on the water at Mission Bay. Lots of restaurants and shopping including Costco nearby. Campland has it's own beach and rental sailboats etc. The best location of the three.

Have stayed at Chula Vista RV only one time, but going back for a rally the second weekend of December. It is right next to the water on 'San Diego Bay. Very nice with large spaces. Good shopping and restaurants nearby.

Both Campland and Chula Vista RV are closer to the San Diego attractions than Santee Lakes.
