San Antonio Area
Hi all,
Hope I am posting in the right place, this is my first time!
Our son and daughter in law are stopping in San Antonio for a few days on their post deployment leave. They will be staying somewhere on the river walk, and since I am not crazy about staying at a hotel, would prefer to stay in an rv park somewhere up there. Anyone have any suggestions? We have two dogs who will be with us, so it has to be pet friendly. Thanks for any suggestions, Skye

We stayed at the San Antonio KOA last winter for 3-4 days.
Very decent, clean, well kept. Quick and easy access to city.

I have seen some reviews on here where some felt that the KOA is not in a good part of town ... but honestly ... we saw nothing wrong with the surrounding neighborhoods (simply older neighborhoods ... that's all). The KOA staff was very friendly, the park is kept very clean, they have tons of huge Live Oaks, they have onsite security with secured access into the RV Park after hours and they serve a great breakfast on weekends. We also found it to be the most convenient to downtown and to the Riverwalk. And if you don't want to drive downtown and deal with parking, the bus stop is right in front of the RV Park (many people staying in the park were using the bus to travel to downtown while we were there). All around great choice in our opinion.

There is a park on the far South side of town on IH37, the highway you will be coming in on, that in my point of view would be more convient for you. It's Braunig Lake RV Park, at the Brauning Lake exit. It is pet friendly, and it's a short quick drive to downtown and the riverwalk.
I agree with the folks that said the KOA is in a bad part of town.

I'll second that. You can get a bus right out front to go to the River Walk, Alamo, etc. Nice, tree shaded sites.

We're from SAT, our favorites parks are Blazing Star, off Hwy 151, and the other is Admiral, a few blocks over. If you can get into a military facility, there are two that we like: Lackland AFB (my favorite military), and Ft Sam Houston...all can be found online.

Skye,
I was 173 days on the road last winter, mostly in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas and had 38 layovers, including San Antone.
I would say that TRAVELER'S WORLD, just south of the city center, was one of the best places I stayed at, certainly in the top 3 or 4.
Clean, comfortable, spacious, good facilities, good staff and very well layed out, very well run.
I saw lots of people out walking their dogs.
City bus to the front door. If you drive, turn left at the gate and it's a straight shot into town, about 10 minutes right to the Alamo or to Riverwalk.
Lost the link just now but with re post immediately.

A couple threads from FoiledAgain on the San Antonio KOA:

It's a good destination IMO. It's a short walk to where the San Antonio Spurs play (in odd number years ... ). I recall the KOA mentioned as being within walking distance of downtown -- Drive it first. It's quite a poke. Walking? Daytime only if at all. Honestly I would save my walking for the new north extension of the River Walk. Drive. Parking is plentiful all around downtown.
And Saturday mornings there is a nice farmers' market at the old Pearl Brewery on the north end of the River Walk extension. South to North - from La Villita to the Pearl -- the Riverwalk rocks!
Close-by extras if you have the time:

We stayed at Braunig Lake RV for a few days last February. It was OK, and not far from downtown and River Walk. Spaces were rather dlose together, but we were not there to spend time at the RV Park. Close to the highway, but not too close. Several there were workers in the area staying for several weeks. No problem.
