S.E. USA fuel crisis

There's lots of chatter and news about long fuel lines, fights and law enforcement protection at fueling stations in the Southeastern US from Raliegh to Nashville and Atlanta. Since our local newspaper is now reporting it to be a fact I wonder what the fuel supply situation is in KY, MO and ARK. We're planning a trip to Eureka Springs, ARK on Monday and plan to drive the Appalachians through Hazard, Bowling Green, into MO and ARK. Do any Forum members have reports regarding fuel availability in these regions? I would imagine there will be trouble especially since Bowling Green is just north of Music City.

I haven't heard of any problems in Arkansas so far.

Father-in-law filled up in Frankfort, KY yesterday. $3.67 for unleaded. Supply is normal up there.

I have heard that Nashville is experiencing localized outages, just like Atlanta.

Stations in Atlanta are getting resupplied overnight, but not with as much supply as usual. I would suggest topping off every morning.

It seems the supply pipeline for Nashville-Atlanta is only operating at about 20% capacity, but the article I read was already 3 days old. It may already be a non-problem.

Gov. Sonny said today that the supply lines should be normal in about 5 days to Georgia. Take that for what it's worth, remember it's a politician speaking.

I don't remember hearing of any "serious" fist-a-cuffs breaking out around Atlanta. There may have been some, but I haven't heard about them. My experience is that people are taking it all in stride. We went thru this same thing during Katrina. Like Ike/Tim said, gas is available, but stations run out and won't get a resupply for a day or so.

At work, we are being told to fill up when we get down to 1/2 tank. Pretty good idea.

Susan went to Melbourne, Florida last week with the scouts when all of this started. I was worried that they wouldn't be able to find gas for the drive back to Atlanta. They didn't have a problem at all.

So, there you have all of my anecdotal evidence. I find it's usually best to ignore the media these days and trust in my friends and places like gasbuddy.com for the truth. Good luck and have a great trip.

Just went up to Jekyll Island, GA this past weekend. Did see some pumps with plastic baggies on their handles at some stations, but everyone seemed to have something. The Flying J at Brunswick, GA was very busy, with 2-3 vehicles in line at the pumps. Prices were reasonable, considering.

We're doing a big installation job at work right now all across the southside of Atlanta region, so I've driven a little over 300 miles just since Monday of this week in Fayette, Spalding, Clayton and Henry counties. The prices I'm seeing range from $3.88 to $4.29 per gallon. A common price seems to be $4.09. The national average I think is around $3.50. For what it's worth.

Thanks for the Gasbuddy.com site Jim. That's a new one for me. I seem to recall the shortages of the 70s and taking jerry cans full of fuel with us only to find that no stations on the Interstate system were closed. Panic combined with our press is often a bad combo. Thanks again for all the postings Forum members.
