We specifically avoid coastal SC camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Edisto is glorious in March.

We will be in the Charleston area for a couple of days beginning Sept 4. Of course for the holiday weekend...when our vacation begins...we were able to find a spot at the Mount Pleasant KOA so we took it. We will have the weekend there and if anyone has suggestions on places to see/go in the area on Sat and Sun that would be appreciated. While there, I will check out the great camping spots I have read about here so next time we will know. Then after a few days at North Myrtle we may head inland ...to the Mountains and some BRP on the way to the home mountains. Thoughts? And thanks in advance. Wonderful people on airforums. Would love to meet all of you sometime on the road.

I'm envious.

Thoroughly explore Charleston and be sure to get into the old Market downtown on Saturday.

Take a drive down to Edisto Beach, walk the beach, and check out their beach campground....our favorite place in the country, and the drive down by itself is a treat.

Eat some Low-Country food......like Shrimp & Grits.

Have a great time.

Thank you.

This is your thread, so going to do a brief hijack....,I lived in Philippi for 3 1/2 years or so, putting first hubbie thru college at Alderson-Broaddus, and my maternal grandmother was born and raised in Greebriar County.

She went to nursing school in Charleston, where she then married her soldier-doctor sweetheart after WWI ended.

A beautiful state you live in, and one my husband and I have spent time in on several occasions.

Enjoy Charleston. .

Dave,
We live in Charleston & you will be close to both the Isle of Palms beach & Sullivan's Island beach (these connect by a bridge). Both are very nice & relaxing. Edisto will be about an hour driving time from where you will be but it is a nice drive. If you go downtown I'd suggest walking down by the historic homes on the Battery (these homes predate the Civil War & are on the ocean & face Fort Sumter). A boat ride to Fort Sumter is also nice. As Maggie suggested fresh shrimp & grits are yummy. If downtown I recommend Magnolia's which has a great southern menu to choose from. It is in East Bay st.

Have fun!
Jane

Two years ago we visited friends in SC and ended up camping at James Island. Huge park, convenient, near Charleston, and full hook ups.

Try the seafood in Calabash, NC and Murrells Inlet, SC. Fat grams don't count in the Low Country!

Since we will be at North MB Travel Park again, we will return to Calabash ... we always do and it not only is close but much less of a zoo .. Thanks. What is at Murrells Inlet that you suggest for good food or other. Sometimes, unless I need something from an RV parts store, we often don't go to MB..staying north mostly.
Thanks
Dave

Sit at Red's Bar on Shem Creek and watch the shrimp boats come in. If you like to read, Pat Conroy from that area has some great ones featuring the low country including Prince of Tides and Beach Music. V
