I've always used the Microsoft Streets & Trips program going back to our first trip in 2001. Did not know that it is now discontinued.

Bing maps?

Protagonist,

I took a look at Bing maps and I do not see that it has those capabilities, at least not clearly. It may be that it is too robust and/or that as a web-based app its main purpose is the database. I would not use a mapping program where I had to have an internet connection, too hard to be sure of getting one with enough bandwidth in campgrounds. I use Streets and Trips, which you can still buy, though not updated and Allstays at home for planning and I use my Garmin on the road. I have Allstays on my smartphone but I have yet to need it on the fly.

Only anti-social if you have refused to talk to yourself while you are driving!

I did a google search on road trips in general (auto oriented) and it seems that this idea has been discussed quite a bit. The idea of being able to input a daily mileage goal with accomodation options at the end of your day. Several forums popped right up with people asking for the exact same idea. Looked like some designers chimed in and spoke of various tech issues prohibitting this type of service. Hmmmmm, and i thought it already exsisted somewhere out there in app land. Apparently not. I guess i can poke and hope on google maps till i find something in the driving range i want, identify a town, then switch to an RV app and input that town and it will give options. Thanks for all the great ideas and input though folks. Love it.

I listen to "Living the RV Dream" podcast by John and Cathy Huggins.

They recently had a review of several RV specific route planning and campsite apps for IOS. Several did what you are requesting but I don't remember the specific names of the Apps that were recommended.

You might check out their website livingthervdream.com and see if you can find more info.

I have yet to look at the AAA site. I use AAA for my roadside assistance plan so its next on my list to check out. Found another one just poking around, its called Truckers Path. Its free and has some handy info including Walmart locations, rest stops, and gps tracking. Its not campground oriented but i think ill keep the app. I was mapping out a trip today traveling from central illinois to the Denver area on rt. 36. I was using google maps, RVparking.com, and Truckers Path. Lots of flipping back and forth trying to estimate about 4hrs per day driving, then a town near that point to enter for a campground search and so on. I guess its just going to take some practice. We have yet to take a long trip needing that type of planning so we are definitely rookies. I dont think at this point that there is a single app out there that will give me what i outlined in my original post. No big deal, just searching for info from all you more experienced folks willing to share your knowledge and experience. A sincere thank you, as always, to all of you.

I use AAA as a route planner. Between that and an Atlas, we figure out how farwe want to drive in a day, then get an idea where we want to stay. The AAA online trip planner changed in the last year or so, I thought the previous version was easier/better to use.

Streets and Trips is still available until the end of the year, and supported until 2015. I upgraded my 2010 version to the 2013 version, only $35 on Amazon. Get it while you can.

Guess i still like the paper maps too much. AAA Trip-Tics and all their related on-line resources is where I always end up.

While I have not used it in the detail you are looking for, I find the app RVParky full of info I do use. It has separate categories for RV Parks, stores, rest areas, amenities, and fuel stops. Each of those categories is able to list specific stores or campgrounds, i.e., Walmart, Cabelas, Flying J, KOA, Camping World, etc. I have found it very useful and responsive to suggestions from its users. If it does not meet your needs, you could suggest they incorporate them into the app.

Just had a look at AAA TRIPTIKS. That looks pretty good. I like that you can enter additional "legs" to the trip starting from your last location.
