RV travel to Newfoundland and Labrador

We are trying to plan a trip in our new Bambi Airstream. Has anyone traveled to Labrador and New Foundland. How was the trip? How were the roads? How was camping with an RV in that area?

Any infor would be aprreciated.

We took our Bambi to Newfoundland last summer and had a terrific time. We spent a month on the island and I'd like to recommend that you budget lots of time.

Go to the end of the island - the National Historical site commemorating Viking landings circa 1000 a.d. at L'Anse aux Meadows is well done.

If you fish, buy a salmon license - even if you're just "troutin'". You never know you might hook something pretty good. Our best trailer cooked meal was trout from a creek recommended by a resident mountie in a small northern settlement.

Eat Lobster - even in off season, we found lots of places where live lobsters are stored in sea water tanks, some the size of municipal swimming pools.

Cautions - the roads even the TransCanadaHighway are pretty narrow ... with not much in the way of shoulders
- it rains ;-)
- fuel is pretty expensive, we spent 88¢/litre in the north, at home in Onatrio the price was 65¢/l.

+++'s - way too many to list here but: outstandingly friendly, hardworking people, great little museums all over the place, outstanding scenery (Western Brook Pond in Gros Morne Park is a wonderful afternoon trip), charming dinner theatre shows, exotic food (fish and brewis comes to mind)

Next summer, we plan to take the rough road from Baie Comeau, Quebec north to Labrador and then through a series of ferries and newly constructed roads we'll cross to Newfoundland at The Straits of Belle Isle.

sounds like a nice trip...years ago i spent a month in bai comeau one week...its hell if you are a yank and dont speak patois...i was working and my interpreter missed the plane from quebec...so armed with my trusty see it and speak it in french book i marched into the hotel and asked for a room.....later....my interpreter fell on the floor laughing...he said it could have been interpreted 2 ways...i either wanted a room with a baby crib to sleep in...or i was proposing to the concierge....still seems strange to me to this day....Vive LA Quebec!...so why go farther north? the trees are only 2 feet tall in bai comeau....go north and yoou would have to speak intuit to get intuit....
