RV Restoration

In case you missed the premiere, Flippin' RVs airs Wednesday, March 19th at 8PM and 10PM EDT/PDT on GAC.

Flippin’ RVs covers the incredible world of vintage and collectible travel trailers following our trailer-obsessed husband and wife team, Justin and Anna Scribner. Together they seek out rare trailers around the country and return their finds to their custom shop, Flyte Camp Vintage Trailer Restoration in Bend, Oregon to restore and surpass their original glory.

I saw it and it represents all that has gone BAD with the Hobby.

I did miss the premiere.
I simply could not remember network or time or day.
I could not find anything online.

I can't speak for Melody Ranch, but I'd be glad to share my reaction.

Phony drama, all about $$$$$. I watched this happen with vintage Porsches and it ruined the hobby for me. When prices went into the stratosphere everything changed. No more DIYers, no more hot rodding, no more die-hard enthusiasts. Just a bunch of rich poseurs trying to establish status and impress everyone. The very opposite of the culture of this forum and this fabulous community.

I really hope that vintage RVing doesn't suffer the same fate.

I didn't watch the show, but this thread got me curious enough to look it up on the Internet. The company's (Flyte Camp) Facebook page calls what they do a "resto-mod." Which kind of tells me that if they went to work on a vintage Airstream, the end product would not be Airstream inside and out, but rather retro-chic kitsch in an Airstream shell. Some people like that sort of thing, but Airstream purists undoubtedly would be shocked and appalled.

Does that match the opinions of people who actually watched the show?

I watched the show. I was entertained. It might ruin it for people looking to find vintage trailers to rebuild at a reasonable cost, however. As far as purists go, so trailers are beyond being kept "pure" and are then made into a usable trailer with an old shell (that's what my Bambi II is). Not all rehabbers are flippers, but those who are will probably have their market $ raised. I especially liked the Spartenette on the show & coveted it!

Not much on the tv thing Vikings and walking dead other than that Mickey for the grand children. My butt is wide enough without couch 101. Drama and money get ratings so it will probably be a hit

TV kills Brain Cells.
Reality TV kills Brains.
I only have One Brain, and started out with a smaller than average amount of Cells.
Your mileage may vary.

I have to admit they do beautiful work. Their 1948 Spartan Manor was parked next to my modest trailer in the Sheep Barn at the fair grounds. Very nice.

I love the idea of rescuing vintage stuff and restoring it. What I can't stand is when a stupid reality show puts the emphasis on the $$$ aspect, which they always do. The stupid title demeans the otherwise noble enterprise.

For whatever it's worth from this old geezer, I agree. Way too much money chasing way too little common sense.....

Yep. Porsches I used to buy for $30,000 are now going for $200,000+. It prices most folks out of the hobby, which is a shame. In the old time vintage Porsche world "flippers" were widely disrespected - it was a derogatory term. It seems like it's becoming some kind of positive term now: flipping cars, flipping houses, flipping RVs.

I suppose I'm just getting old and grumpy.

What makes the value shoot up isn't the few with money that can afford to max out their designs. It's the fact that the interest in the subject goes through the roof that makes the value go up like that. In general, value goes down when you start changing the originals.

Same with football. People complain how much they get paid, when it's our own fault for watching the games. If people lost interest, they wouldn't be paid as much. That's the entertainment business all around.

The cost to make a show means it has to bring a certain amount of viewers. If the show didn't flip to an extreme level, only a tiny few would watch. This is what YouTube videos should tackle.

I've never heard of this program or channel -- GAC? We have Dishnet, could someone please tell me the channel number?

I agree about the drama of these shows, they're all doing it. Duck Dynasty, OC Choppers, Fast N Furious, etc. -- they all have a group of friends, family, or employees and then comes the interactions for that program; complaints, arguing among themselves, etc. all as a part of the "hook" to keep you watching for entertainment. In the beginning it is somewhat entertaining, but then it becomes more of the same.

Thanks.

I tried to catch the show last night beginning at 8 PM CST.
They ran several episodes of Celebrity RV's and RV 2013, but no Flippin' RV's.
GAC - Great American Country is 326 on DirecTV. I have no idea what channel it is on Dish.

We have been watching the last few weeks episodes on DirecTV, Very interesting! My Husband's cousin has a Bodyshop in Prineville, (not far from Bend), the guy they use for their pin striping was on this episode we're presently watching, LOL!
