Heheh....we actually got kicked off a Walmart parking lot in Flagstaff boondocking in the late 90s when I was in college. I think we just left early and drove out to the north rim and spent a few nights before we continued on to Las Vegas.

My stay at the Flagstaff KOA was similar. I had my 310 motorhome at that time and they put me in a spot which was off level in two directions and completely impossible to use for me. I walked around until I found a spot that might work, and went back to ask if I could use that one. They were not happy with me for complaining and were rude about moving me. They offered absolutely no apology for my problem and indifferent to any leveling issues that motorhomes have. It had trees, but nothing else to compensate for the place and staff attitude. I also would never go back there.

Just an FYI.. We ended up staying at the J&H RV park and it was one of the nicest we have stayed in. The park is spotless and the owner is very helpful.

We stayed at the KOA in Flagstaff last summer and did not like the experience either. Our spot was so tight that the large 5er that came in could barely fit. The other side was taken by what looked to be a permanent resident with a large dog with a questionable personality. There was no place to sit outside our trailer.

We will be returning to the area next summer and will look at some of the other sites mentioned here.

J and H RV Park

We stayed here the night of 9/15/12.
It is a very nice campground. It is a few miles off the interstate, so fairly quiet. I would recommend it to anyone. If we stay in Flagstaff again, it will be our first choice.

Worst KOA

We just returned from a 2700 mile tour of Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona. Stayed in several campgrounds.
THE KOA IN FLAGSTAFF was one of the WORST experiences in our travels.
We had made reservations almost a month in advance.
Upon our arrival we found the campsite to be difficult to back in. The picnic table was covered with food particles and spilled liquids.
When we asked to have it cleaned. The manager was dispicably rude and actually said "Do you want the site or not?"
I had one of the chock blocks in my hand and was real tempted to clock him with it.
We got our money back and left.
I would not recommend this KOA to my worst enemy!

just returned from an extended trip out west. one of the most pleasant campgrounds that we stayed in was Rancho Sedona in Sedona AZ just south of Flafstaff. we were there on the nights of Spt 16th and 17th and the weather was perfect.

We spent four nights at J&H last week after the
Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Rally and liked the park very much. However, they close at the end of this month for the winter.

We stayed at a little place called Greers Pine Shadow RV Park. We had to use our leveling blocks but it was a pleasant experience. Shady with lots of trees. Had another Airstream across the road, too. We don't use campground bathrooms or showers - so cannot address that. We're not sure they had them. I think we got a Passport America discount there- but not sure without looking up receipts

We went from the KOA to Greers. It is an old park without toilet and shower facilities. The laundry is 1960 vintage, but useable.
We were welcomed by the host in a warm and pleasant manor.
While I would rate the place as a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10, I would choose it over the KOA every time.

In sharp contrast to the Flagstaff KOA is the Lakeside KOA in Ft. Collins, CO. I would rate it a 10. Very nice, well run operation. They even have a trash pickup service at no charge. If you put your trash out between the hours of 8 and 10 AM it will be picked up. Concrete pads and grass between each site that is watered daily.
They are open all year.

We drove past the Flag KOA last Friday night and there was a line backed up to get in! Go figure. We've stayed at Rancho Sedona and agree, very nice. And when you wake up, the trails to the red rocks are right up the street! Worth the extra 30 minutes south from Flag to have a great night..and super day!

Yikes! Was this "incident" recent, the last couple of weeks?
