RV campgrounds near downtown Memphis

Are there any nice campgrounds near Le Bonheur children's hospital in downtown Memphis?

We enjoyed our stay at the Tom Sawyer campground in West Memphis AR. But it's probably a half-hour from downtown. The Hollywood Casino in Tunica can also be a cost-effective stay, but it's about an hour out.

I'm looking into this myself, since I've got some training coming up in the Memphis area, and would like to get in some camping while I'm at it.

Haven't stayed at either of these locations yet, but two places that I stumbled across in my research are:
Graceland RV Park (Graceland RV Park & Campground)
Southhaven RV Park (Southavens most convienient RV Park just east of I-55 on Stateline Road)

Although it would be a longer commute, I'm actually leaning toward one of the three Corps of Engineers campgrounds with water and electric hookups on Arkabutla Lake in Mississippi, about 25 miles from Memphis. (Corps Lakes Gateway: Mississippi - Arkabutla Lake)

Consider avoiding Graceland and T O Fuller. Shelby Forest is reasonably close but is heavily infested with mosquitos. Tom Sawyer is your best bet. You can also try www.agricenter.org/rvpark. It's on the eastern side of memphis and about 30 minutes from the hospital.

I am avoiding Graceland and Southaven RV Park and T. O. Fuller because i am leary of the neighborhoods. I am avoiding Arkabutla because it is too far off the highway. I might try the RV park near the Harley shop just off Church Rd. or Memphis South campground in Hernando. Does anyone know prices? I think that campground off Church Rd. is $27.00 per night. I would prefer to stay on the south side of Memphis because that is the direction toward home.

I'm through Memphis several times a year and settled on Tom Sawyer as the best campground, even considering the commute. I've not been a happy camper at other campgrounds mentioned above. And I've been underwhelmed with Central BBQ and Neely's. But good BBQ is in the sigh of the beholder.

We've stayed at Tom Sawyer and liked it. Ask if you can get a spot with shade, those silver corridors get hot!

The Jellystone in Horn Lake is nice. I'd love to hear any opinions about the other rv park nearby (EZ Daze off Church Road).

We have stayed at the Agricenter RV Park when traveling on business. The Agricenter RV Park is below what most would consider minimum standards. Memphis is a tough place for visiting in your AS.

We had no problems at the Graceland park three years ago. Clean. Great location to visit GL which everyone should do. Had a BBQ dinner delivered to our coach in a pink cadillac....yes, we were full-blown tourists!

Memphian here. Ok well I moved to central TN a few years ago but still call MEM home.

Only 2 places I would recommend are Tom Sawyer and Harrah's Casino RV Park.

Tom Sawyer is the closest to downtown, just across the river. It is about a 15 minute drive from downtown (St Jude Children's Hospital) or about 20 minutes from Le Bonheur. Nice park and right on the largest river in North America (10th largest in the world!). Fun to see the barges pass buy so close to you. It is prone to flooding specific times of the year so call ahead.

There are 2 or 3 RV parks down in Tunica MS which is about 30 to 40 minutes south of downtown Memphis. Similar to Tom Sawyer, little to no shade but still a nice park. Free shuttle to the buffet too

TO Fuller really should be called NO Fuller because you don't want to go there. I haven't been up to Meeman-Shelby Forest in quite a while, but it may be okay. Haven't been to Graceland RV park but it sounds from previous posts it may be okay.

I have heard the Jellystone in Southaven lacks some of the attractions of other Jellystones such as the one at Pelahatchie, MS. I guess that isn't all that important when we just need a safe place to stay for the night.

I may reconsider Graceland, but the tours are just too expensive. Several years ago my wife and I were going to take a tour, but ticket prices were out of sight- like $65 each for the complete tour of everything including cars, the bus, and the airplane.

We like both Fuller and Sawyer; however, a check on Sawyer might be a good idea due to the high river water level although it is behind the river levy. We plan on staying there again this month on our way west. Good luck.

Spent three nights at Graceland last July and found ut clean and secure. The park is fenced and a 24hr manned guard house is at the entrance. For Elvis fans ( which includes me) the park is behind the Heartbreak Hotel and next to the parking lot for Graceland. On my list of things to do ONCE, is the Graceland tour! We really enjoyed the tour. Elvis was one unique guy!

We too heard it was it was in a bad part of town but saw no evidence to confirm that.

I have heard EZ Daze is nice and big, but it is $27 per night. Tom Sawyer or T O Fuller may be less. We can stay in Corps of Engineers parks half price. North Abutment Campground in Grenada is $10.00 per night, therefore getting 2 or 3 nights for the same price as 1 night at some other campground.

Check availability first; some CoE campgrounds in the area have partial closures (some loops closed) this year due to budget cuts. I've run into that issue for Arkabutla, Sardis, and Enid Lakes already in my trip planning, but haven't checked the Grenada Lake campgrounds yet.

Some loops closed is sometimes a seasonal thing. They will open basically from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
