Route 66

I'm a route 66 fan. I have traveled all of the old route, pretty much. Not in the Airstream yet but thats coming. All my trips so far have been in the bus deadheading to the coast or back from Nashville. From Seligman Az east the route mostly follows the interstate but goes trough all the old towns along the way. If you have the time jump off the big road and see the places time forgot. Spend a little money and make some friends. You will meet lots of tourists from Germany and Japan. People allover the world think the old route is cool and there right. There are good web sites to tell what all the ruins along the way are. Enjoy and remember the pieces of road in California can be very remote in places, have fun but be prepaired. Steve

Hi Steve,

I share your love for old 66...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f42/...tml#post432619

What are you driving, a Prevost Marathon for some country star? That's a job I've thought would be fun for a while... I have part of my Class B (with restriction of a fully licensed class B or higher in the front seat next to me) until I can get time to finish with the road test...

If I had extra $$, a few Airstreams would be in the garage, as well as a Marathon Prevost or a Newell....

Travel well on 66..

Kevin

Route 66, 1952

Little did I know that at age 14 in 1952 and traveling Route 66 from Illinois to Califonia that well traveled primitive highway would still be a hit today.....or what is left of it. If indeed had I known I would have taken many more pictures! I do have several stoies about my family's (Dad, Mom, brother and I...and dog) 'imigration' to a new home in Ca. These pictures have been posted in other '66 related threads. All taken during that journey.

Route 66 is cool

I've driven parts of it but not the whole thing (or what remains of it). It's one of those things I want to do and I want to do it in an airstream.

It would be great if this route was repaired from Chicago to LA as part of some historic preservation effort.

A group of us headed to the balloon fiesta made several stops along the route on our way to New Mexico. Several pictures are located in that thread. Winslow was a big hit as wellas the Jackrabbit trading post. Two Guns and Twin Arrows were other stops.

How close does Route 66 come to the Grand Canyon? Brice Canyon? Wasn't that the route that Thelma and Louise took before their "detour"?

a few years ago the trdwnd and the travelall did drive route 66 picking it up
near williams AZ .It does go to the Grand Canyon Caverns . The caverns are
really cool and totally worth going to see. Williams AZ has vintage car interests and is a neat little town .Driving the old highway with a vintage
IH travelall and a 60 airstream was very rewarding ,reminds me of Wally Byams caravans ,travelalls and airstreams a great combination of what the past was like .Those pictures are really cool FreshAir and ROBERT CROSS
good stuff for sure .Im really feeling the need to get back on 66 somtime
soon !

Arizona 66

From Seligman to Kingman the route takes a diferent path from interstate. Very cool. Old alignments are still visible in many places. Steve
