Roaring River State Park, Missouri

This is our official shakedown trip in our new to us 2008 Classic 25 FB.

My wife has a sister in Missouri so we decided to meet them a Roaring River State Park.
Roaring River State Park | Missouri State Parks

Roaring River is located in the southwest part of Missouri in the Ozarks not far from Springfield. The closest town is Cassville

The weather was a little rainy and cool on the Friday's drive and even on Saturday it was still drizzly so rather than take photos I spent the day learning the Airstream systems. So far no water leaks from the drive up in the rain or sitting in the campground.

However, the converter didn't seem to be working correctly. Not much DC output so the batteries were not being charged and the converter wasn't supplying enough DC to really run the coach. I drove into Cassville and purchased a battery charger to keep the batteries charge and we were able to salvage the weekend.

The next day the weather cleared. Here are a few photos of our new to us Airstream

There are three campgrounds at the state park and in Campground 2 all sites have electricity but there are no water or sewer hookups. Campground 1 and 3 have a mixed set of sites were some have electricity and other don't. There are water faucets in the the campgrounds and if you are in a campsite that is close to a faucet you could fill up using a 75 - 100 foot hose. The dump station has potable water for filling your tank too.

Here are a few photos showing some of the sites and a fellow Airstreamer.

The big claim to fame for this state park is the trout fishing. Roaring River is a spring fed river and it comes out of a cave into a large pool. There is a fish hatchery at the headwaters too. Fish are released into the river daily from what I understand. The hatchery raises some large fish and some of these larger fish are released also. Unfortunately, when we went to see all this it was on Saturday and it was cool and rainy and I didn't take my camera. But here are a few photos showing the river. From vantage points on the river I could see some trout and there are some large ones in the river. The river is divided into several sections where they allow only catch and release with flies to artifical lures with a limit and then bait with a limit.

Roaring River State Park is a pretty full featured park. Each campground has showers and restrooms. There is a park store, a hotel with restaurant, swimming pool, picnic areas, children's playgrounds, group shelters and lots of hiking trails.

One of favorite activities is hiking. This is a nice way to get some exercise and makes me appreciate the beer waiting for my back at camp.

Most hikes are within the wood and there are some climbs so you get a good workout.

I wanted to take more photos but we encountered a few issues with the Airstream on this trip which diverted my attention.

Converter failure
Shower leaking into the interior hall
AC leaking condensation to interior hall
Water leak. Pump was burping every half hour. Found the leak after we got back
Spent a few hours figuring out the Sony audio system with 10 disc changer. Kind of crazy system but I was able to play FM, play a DVD to the TV, play the 10 disc changer and play the TV audio through the speakers. However the subwoofer seems to be not functioning.

I hope you enjoy the photos.

I want to go back next year at this time and try some trout fishing. It's not hot and not very crowded.

Thanks

Kevin
