Roadside Assistance

I'm looking into purchasing roadside assistance for my 25' safari. Need assistance with changing tires or towing. Anyone particularly satisfied with their company? Need advise.

goood question. wish i could help but have not been unfortunate. we did get rv coverage with aaa as we also have it for tv. we will watch for replies.

Definitely good sam, not aaa as I had aaa for many years and they knew I was driving a van camper never did they refuse payment, but when I needed them they sent a small tow vehicle he said it was too heavy and that was the last we heard from aaa.

Since then I have found they do have a special rv policy, but the service and price is better at Good Sam.

We have roadside assistance through our insurance company, but also with Good Sam...have not had the need to use it yet, happily...had one flat, but changed it ourselves. My guess is that Good Sam understands RV needs better.

I would have to recommend Good Sam's Roadside I have used them a couple times to tow my vehicle and repair a flat on a previous motor home the service was great never had any other...SAM

Had a major mechanical problem with my tow vehicle outside of Littlerock, AR real boondocks. Had Good Sam roadside assistance. Within an hour of calling we had our A/S towed to an RV park and set up and the tow vehicle towed to a mechanic without a problem. The mechanic could not fix the TV because it was in the main computer and only dealers have access for reprogramming those buggers so Good Sam had it towed to the nearest dealer which was about 25 miles away, no charge.
I'm happy with Good Sam and would recommend them.

I've had, and used, both Good Sam ERS and AAA Plus RV.

Had AAA for autos, and their RV coverage seemed to be kept a pretty close secret. Told AAA we were switching to Good Sam and AAA said, "We have that coverage." Who knew?

We don't plan to go back -- have only heard good for AAA.

What about "roadside" emergency MEDICAL assistance -- what do folks do about this?

Thanks for your responses everybody. I feel better about choosing an assistance provider since reading postings. With good luck we will never need it, but will feel better knowing we have it.

I have AAA Plus. I have never had any reason to call them when my trailer was in tow. But, when my dual wheel truck broke down along the hwy, I told them I did not want it towed and that I wanted a flat bed truck to pick it up. They sent a large flat bed truck with a winch that winched it right on to the bed of their truck and drove it to the place I reqested.
Has anybody had any experience with AAA Plus when towing something and broke down? I wonder how they handle them both (TV and trailer).

Like others I have had Good Sam Roadside Assistance for years, and I have called them once and they were really helpful. They told me over the phone the solution I needed, and I was off and running. Easy to deal with too.

Bluto - In a nutshell, after many good years with AAA, and then for a couple years AAA Plus RV, I went with Good Sam because I found that AAA would only handle both TV and trailer in certain regions. I asked the question at the local, regional, and national levels, and got inconsistent answers from all three. I went with Good Sam because they gave me a definitive answer, and have been very pleased with their service so far.

I believe there are some existing threads that can explain this in more detail.

We've had AAA coverage almost 40 years, and had blowout of 1 of 4 tires on freeway south of Gilroy, CA at 6 PM on Sunday returning from Nor-Cal event.. Happily, railer handled it well, and we rumbled to stop on shoulder. Called AAA (I knew their basic policy covers RV's "up to 5 miles") and when they discovered I had no spare (I do now...) and that nearest tire shop was closed for night, they simply said: "Sorry, you're on your own til tomorrow.. Good night!" No tow truck, no advice, no nothing..

We elected to pull ahead on shoulder to exit and discovered RV park 1 mile away, which took some time at 5 mph on 3 tires, but I parked, unhooked, removed wheel, drove home in Excursion, had local shop replace and went back and reversed process next day.. Even "Plus" coverage buys longer tows, but not necessarily more help for RV's.. They're great for cars, but not so great for RV's...

I'd also look into Good Sam..

Our Airstream is covered by a rider on our tow vehicle policy with Farmers. The towing insurance is inexpensive, and we have used it several times over the years. In a few cases, we have had to pay out of pocket, but we were reimbursed quickly after the tow receipts were submitted. I'd check with the insurer that covers your Airstream and tow vehicle to see if that might work for you.

I've had AAA for 8 years and have used them exactly once. That one was interesting as I managed to get my VW Eurovan Camper (pop top) severely stuck in the mud in a remote part of Alaska less than one week into my new membership. I didn't even have my cards yet. At 1 AM some 30 miles from Nenana Alaska I called and within an hour had a well equipped, professional tow truck at my location to pull me out. I was absolutely stunned at how painless this was. It would have been $400 or more had I paid out of pocket.
