AAA has three plans.
The Basic, almost worthless, 5 miles of towing and nothing for the RV, but you do get the discounts and triptiks and tour books.
AAA Plus, will tow 100 miles, but still nothing for RV
AAA RV Plus, will tow 100 miles and covers your RV as well.

AAA (and perhaps others) has an iPhone app called AAA Roadside that allows you to request service - and identifies to AAA where you are (via the iPhone GPS). Really cool - happy to say I haven't needed to use it, but this really could improve identifying to AAA where exactly you are requiring service, and all without needing to make a phone call.

There is also a second app called AAA Discounts that, again using GPS, identifies businesses nearby to your location that offer AAA discounts.

Don't ask AAA

Our experience w/ AAA is negative. Lost a tire on my boat trailer headed to the lake this summer. Called AAA. Boat Trailer not covered. I didn't even know they had AAA for RVers. Maybe that option would have covered my boat trailer. They left me on the side of the interstate. Fortunately, SC has HERO Trucks to help motorist on certain sections of highways. Called them (911 connected me). HERO put my spare on and had me on the road within an hour. First portion of hour was wasted on AAA. I don't plan to renew my AAA this year, and I've been a member since 1994. After reading through this thread, will check roadside assistance with RV insurance company. But I don't know who that is yet. Just got my Airstream last wednesday. Any recommendations out there for insurance companies before I go see my current Home/Auto agent?

I think some Folks are missing the point here; AAA may cover you if you have RV rider and are in a AAA RV club region, and I am sure they would be as competent as the tow truck driver that shows up. If you are not in one of the regions that offers RV coverage it does not matter what policy you have...your RV will NOT be covered. Just because your home region AAA offers RV coverage...you may be screwed when you leave your region...AAA RV is NOT Nation wide.

does anyone know if State Farm will cover service for a TT? I called them today, but they said only my agent could tell me. it's the weekend and we're planning on picking up a trailer tomorrow or monday. I've got the $2 roadside policy, but no details about it in the literature.

also, any idea what Progressive RV insurance for a $5k TT with their roadside plan would be per month? I could call monday, but was just wondering so i could ponder it on the ride.

thanks,
andy

In Texas on the back of the drivers licens in very small print is an 800 number for Free Roadside Assistance. I've never used it and don't know what services they do.

I know this thread is about the quality of service, but one thing that REALLY puts me off Good Sam is the amount of junk mail they send me. I probably get a mailing from them every other week, either for the roadside assistance or their insurance. I would've ditched Good Sam entirely except that one campground I frequently stay at offers Good Sam and not AAA discounts.

Odd, I'm a Good Sam member w/ERS, and rarely get anything from them by mail. That's a good thing.

Hey Skater- Like you, we don't care for all their junk mail either. All it took for us was to phone them and they gave us a choice to opt out of any or all mailings. We now only receive the requested mailings. This should work for everyone.

I'd check with the insurance company you use for your tow vehicle. We got tow insurance for a few dollars extra every six months. The only problem is that sometimes (depends on where you break down) you may have to pay out of pocket, and wait to get reimbursed. However, a couple of years ago, we had a flat on our Airstream in Mexican Water, Arizona, and pulled off the road and got stuck in deep sand. The tow truck had to come from Cortez, Colorado (the alternative was Ship Rock, New mexico), from a different state, and the flat fix with mileage was $450. We had to pay with a credit card at the time, but Farmers later reimbursed the full amount.

We've used Allstate Motor Club's RV Roadhelp for several years. Used it three times and were very pleased with their response and the companies they sent to provide towing/service. If you ever stay at KOAs, it also offers KOA discounts. Allstate Motor Club - Welcome to RV Roadhelp
