Road trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico

hi y’all,
We are newbies to this forum but have found it loaded with information. We will be headed to the balloon festival in Albuquerque the first of October. We are leaving from Mississippi State university visiting our Grandaughter then heading west. We are looking for any suggested stops that are dog friendly. We hope to then drive to the Grand Canyon, lake Powell and then ? We have been to Florida then Tennessee in our interstate and had a great time. So any suggestions for dog friendly hikes (we are seniors ,so not too far, lol),restaurants, quirky sites?

Google Maps gave me three routes—I would take the Memphis/Little Rock/OKC/Amarillo route if it were me for two reasons—

1. Avoid Dallas (always a plus for traffic IMO).

2. Petit Jean State Park outside Little Rock is right on the route and about 6 hours from MSU. Awesome place for a first night’s stop. We LOVE this park—hands down our favorite in the fall. Great range of hiking trails (one is an 8’ wide concrete path), and wonderful scenery.

Happy planning and safe travels!

Dave

I'm traveling that way in mid Oct starting from Austin. Using Roadtrippers.com to plan sightseeing and https://www.bringfido.com/destination/state/new_mexico/
https://blog.gopetfriendly.com/destination/new-mexico/
to help with dogs.
