Road trip Florida to Mackinac Island MI

Fairly new to the Forums. Any suggestions or recommendations for making the trip from West Coast of Florida to Mackinac Island, MI? Would I 75 be best road to tow/ravel or are there alternate, more scenic, routes. Also would appreciate any recommendations on sites or books to help in planning this or any Airstreaming road trips (ie: info on hills, mountains, windy or high elevation roads) throughout US, Canada, Mexico.

Thanks
369

Road trip Florida to Mackinac Island MI

If it's Mackinac island In Michigan, 75 straight up looks pretty simple. depending on how much time you have to travel I would find some cool side trips on the way up, possibly so you can avoid big cities. Please log your adventure I would like to follow it!

Hey 369,
Take a side trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes NP. Petosky has a nice state park and the drive from Harbor Springs to Cross Village (eat at Leggs)is wonderful. We haven't traveled any further under the bridge than that (trolls?).
Enjoy your trip.
Tim

We just traveled from the Keys back to our home in NW Indiana via 65 instead of 75. We hit such bad traffic going south around Atlanta that we rerouted our way home (this was in January). We stopped off at the Jack Daniels distillery for a break & really enjoyed it! No Smokey Mountains on this route either.

Trip Planning Web Site

My wife is our trip planner. She is currently raving about www.roadtrippers.com. I suggest you take a look at it, particularly since you're open to finding an interesting route.

When you get to Toledo, I'd recommend you take US23 North until it meets back up with I75 in the Flint, MI.

Also, a side trip I'd recommend is Frankenmuth, MI. It's just East of I75 a few miles but a neat little Bavarian town with shops and great chicken dinners.

Frankenmuth also has Bronners Christmas store, open all year with every decoration ever made. Ditto the U.S. 23 shortcut around Detroit. If you want scenery, follow US 23 from Standish north to Mackinaw City along Lake Huron. I 75 is the shortest, and usually quickest way. Atlanta is best tackled outside of rush hour, the mother ship in Jackson Center, OH is just a quick side trip off I 75 in Ohio, and in Wapakoneta is the Neil Armstrong Space Museum. Well worth the time and admission. Berea KY, Knoxville and Oak Ridge Tn, and many other towns along the route offer many worthwhile side trips, cultural and historical highlights.
