Red River Gorge in KY

Hey Folks, I'm thinking about hitting the Red River Gorge in Kentucky next weekend. Red River Gorge Geological Area

For those wondering where it is, it is east of Lexington, KY in the Daniel Boone NF. Any insights on the sights or boondocking would be much appreciated. There is an area map attached. Oh yeah, anyone want to come along?

We plan on getting out this weekend also. The Red River Gorge is a beautiful area. If you have never been there, it is a State Resort Park. They have two different campgrounds. For the most part they are small spaces but I haven't been there for about 19 years. The camping areas may have changed. There was one campground that was larger and would accommodate larger units.

I'm leaning toward Koomer Ridge campground or maybe boondocking, but I'm flexable.

Koomer Ridge??!!

My past has found me out. In the year 1966 I church camped in the area and in 1970 I cycled solo to the campground from Lexington. Once was a cool and quiet place to listen to the trees, climb to just under the deck of the fire tower and take your life into your hands dropping down the part gravel road off the ridge and through the switchback on a 10 speed. The tunnel was a trip coming out of the sun and having no real light on a bike. I've got to figure some or all is different now but next trip into the state I might revisit.
