Red Coconut - won't allow a "ProPride"

Here's a new one to me. Tried to make some reservations at the "Red Coconut" down in Fort Meyers Beach, FL for the end of January '18. They told me that they put the TT's in with their own tractor. Mmmmm....said I, don't know if that'll work, I don't have a ball hitch. I have a "Propride" and the Lady puts me on hold and comes back with "sorry, but we cannot accommodate you unless you have a standard ball hitch. Maybe this is not so strange, but it's a first for us. I cannot imagine with all the "proprides" and hensleys out there, that these people cannot handle these hitches.

End of Red Coconut !

Anyone got any suggestions for a full hook up in SW Florida, in that area ?

That's lawyers for you. It's not about what is right it's about how much money can you be sued for.

I've been to that campground. Other than the fact I nearly had a coronary when they almost hit somebody else's trailer with our trailer, they park trailers so close together you probably wouldn't be able to open your main awning fully. It IS right on the Gulf, though. Less than 100' walk to the water.
If you really want to stay there, you can use one of these, and the tractor people will be able to park your trailer:

I don't think it's a great loss. I didn't like being two feet from my neighbor & not being able to see the water since we were in the 2nd row. It was too close for comfort for the price paid.

When I took my AS in for some work at the local Airstream dealer, they had never seen a Propride hitch. They did not know at first if they would be able to work on the trailer since it would have to be left and they would have to be able to move it around. I had to leave the bayonet receiver with them so that they could move the trailer. I would think that a dealer would be aware of the Propride and Hensley and have available receivers.

Fir the crowding, and their inability to use a ProPride system, I’m glad to be forewarned. Place is now on my avoid list. If I wanted to be that close to another trailer, I can leave my AS in our storage place[emoji3][emoji3][emoji3]

Try Crystal Lake in Naples, Fl. I got there after 9:00 pm and had to find my assigned spot and park myself. Nobody said a word for the eight days lewster installed my solar system. On Sunday the gate guard told Lew he couldn't work that day. Lew said all the work was goung to be on the inside. That was our last contact with management.

Fort Myers RV Park

You might give Woodsmoke a try, we were able to get in there during Christmas. The site we had was roomy enough, and everyone was friendly.

Well they say things happen for the best. After looking at all the negative feedback, it's probably good that they cannot handle a pro pride.

But it's not like the PP is an anomaly. There are plenty of PP's and Hensley's around, but even many RV dealers cannot accommodate you if you have one.

Anyway, thanks for the input folks. It appears that Woodsmoke is full and so far have been unable to find anything called "Crystal Lake", but I'm still looking.

I too thought is was strange at first, but now after six years of being on row 3, spot 24 beachside for two weeks in March, I don't have a problem with it.

In fact, when I show up, they remember us, take their time in making sure the trailer is parked just right on our spot so the awning can fully extend, etc....(little $20.00 tip never hurts either)

It just took getting over the fact my 1966 Overlander that's all original including couch covers is a trailer that is dragged behind a truck at 65mph down the road and not a museum piece of art, they won't damage your trailer (though will cut it close). I work with them making sure all sides are safe as they back in and all is good.

May not be for everyone, but I love the place and will be going back until the big man upstairs decides otherwise

Enjoy,

Well, they are kind of rare. Whenever I do a sweep through the campground (456 spaces) during my summer job, I like to checkout all the different rigs. I might see four VPP hitches in an entire summer and almost always on an Airstream.

Not surprised that a particular campground might be unfamiliar...
