We stopped here last Feb. for a few days .........
Cajun Palms RV Resort
This is at Henderson, and was a very convenient spot to visit Breaux Bridge, Lafayette, Avery Island etc.
The campground is quite new and worked well for us. Excellent sites, facilities, amenities.
From reading about it in advance I was bit concerned it might be a big party spot for local RV'ers on weekends - lots of golf carts, booze & kids, etc., but we did not find it so.
I don't recall if we were there n a Friday/Saturday though!
Certainly would have no qualms about stopping there again.
Brian.

Here is a hidden gem in Lafayette proper:
Acadiana Park, a Gem of a City Park Campground in Lafayette, LA
It's a city park, $15 a night, water & electric and they let you dump grey water on the ground. I recommend site #34. We were there last week.

I have stayed at the city park a couple of times. At $15 a night it cannot be beat, makes an excellent location to base out of while visiting the area. Has water and electric with central dump site. Clean restroom and showers with friendly management. It does fill up if there are any major events going on in the area. My last time there they let me spend the night in the parking area until someone left the next day.

Lake Fausse Point State Park
I stayed at Lake Fausse Point State Park last Spring. It's a little ways out in the country if that's what you want. Centrally located in the Atchafalaya Basin, the heart of Acadiana.

Stayed at the KOA here many moons ago. Nice place, on a little lake. They had classes in the evening that taught us tourists how to pinch tails & suck heads...
Never got into the heads, but crawfish tails sure are good! Loved the food in Lafayette, the epicenter of Cajun cuisine.

We stayed at Palmetto Island State Park a few weeks ago. It is only two years old. Very nice and clean. Close to Abbeville and about 30 minutes from Lafayette.
You are sure to pass a good time there!

We are in this campground (Palmetto Island SP) right now and it is great! Also, very empty, easy to get a spot.

A bit north of Lafayette, Chicot State Park near Ville Platte is a fine park, and home to the Louisiana State Arboretum, with six miles of hiking trails in the Arboretum. I've stayed there twice, both times in Loop A.
West and south of Lafayette, there is a tourist opportunity for Avery Island, home of Tabasco sauce. Within an easy drive of Palemtto Island State Park.
East of Lafayette along US Highway 90, there's a town called Morgan City. Lake End RV Campground is located on the shore of scenic Lake Palourde just north of Morgan City. A little pricey at $38 per night (with Good Sam, Passport America, AARP, or America the Beautiful Senior Pass discount), but a nice park nonetheless.

For future reference, what makes that site better?

Elevated, next to creek and woods, easy backin, good hookups, storm drain right next to pavement, gray water dump of sorts.
