Recommendations for Glacier National Park.

Any great camping parks in or around Glacier with full hookups? Headed out that way this summer.

Hi from AZ. . . the East Glacier KOA is very nice, and convenient to the East side of the park. The West Glacier KOA, not nearly as nice, right at St Mary. . . enjoy, Craig

think you have this reversed; the West Glacier KOA is very nice while the East Glacier KOA is fair and at St. Mary.

Big Creek Campground. It's RIGHT ON the Northfork of the Flathead river. Dry camping only. Sites are spread apart. Boat launch on campground site. Go to www.recreation.gov to check it out.

We are planning a trip to Glacier too!

We prefer staying in the park but being the 100th anniversary of the NPS it may be extra crowded this year. Plan accordingly.

Many Glacier is in a Forrest and near great trailheads. It used to be walk-on only, but starting tomorrow it opens for reservations. We liked Rising Sun. Not as big as MG and easy access to Logan Pass.

There are no full hookups in the park, so far as I know. We've stayed at the Glacier Campground in West Glacier several times. It's close to the west entrance and there is some vegetation screening between sites.

Otherwise, perhaps you've thought of traveling with a generator, gas can, and jerry can for extra water (with funnel) which would get you through a longer stay in a no-hookups site inside the park.

There are 2 CGs (Fish Creek, St. Mary) in the park that take reservations. Highly recommended that people make them ASAP as soon as the reservation window opens, as the campgrounds in the park do fill up during the high seasons.

We stayed at West Glacier KOA. Big park, well run, very clean and off main highway so we could walk our dogs up and down their almost private road to get them their exercise and us as well. They have a nice dinner every night, with a joker as a cook who livens everything up.

Very close to west entrance to the park. The NP system will probably be jammed this year, so we are doing some work camping in July and August in the Black Hills and then moving around to some parks after Labor Day.

Enjoy

Bud

Took advantage of the new reservation system for Many Glacier and got a site for August. We also reserved a site at Fish Creek Campground on the west side. We are traveling with my inlaws in their 31ft class C so we figured for their first time we'd reserve sites so we can be close together.

We are staying at St Mary for two nights before heading to Many Glacier for 5 nights then over to Fish Creek for 4 nights then its back home.

Only 6 months to wait!

Another vote here for West Glacier KOA. It's outrageously expensive, but a very nice clean place to camp with easy access to the west entrance. The campground is level, quiet, and well maintained, though most sites will not have trees / shade. Their neighbors have horses which seem friendly and are fun to watch as they stroll through the trees on that property.

Also, if you want to ride those old-timely buses into the park, we saw them come out to the campground to make pick-ups and drop-offs. Again, this is a $$$ activity, but it might suit your fancy.

Next time, though, we'll try to stay inside the park - even without hookups.

The Red Bus tours are highly recommended. We took the Many Glacier to Lake McDonald tour in 2011. The weather was perfect, the top was down. The driver, Evelyn, who had been driving these buses for over 10 years was a wealth in Glacier stories, history and facts. It's the only way to drive the Going to the Sun.

Last time we were at Glacier, we rode our bikes up from the west side as far the Birdwoman Falls overlook. Beyond there, the road was still closed for clearing of snow. This was just a couple of days before they opened up the road to vehicles. It was a really great experience, highly recommended for those who can do so - just amazing.

St. Mary CG may still be shut down as result of major fire event last summer.

Also, don't plan on using Logan Pass road to get from West side to East side or back pulling a trailer.

Very narrow and tight switchbacks. Plan on taking State Road around south end of park if pulling your rig.

Have a really good time!
