Recommendations Central Texas Camp ground

Looking for a great place to spend Thanksgiving in central Texas. Anyone have a suggestion?

Grapevine RV Park just north of DFW Airport is a great place. Very clean, well organized. Close to all of the good eating places and shopping but still seems remote. That's not our AS in the photo but it was taken at Grapevine.

Central Texas is a big area can you narrow it down some. Austin, Waco San Antonio or some where else.

The PECAN GROVE, right downtown in the heart of AUSTIN,TEXAS, is about as funky or cool as any RV park can get.

What kind of campground do you like? State parks? Full-hookup private parks? "RV Resorts" with lots of amenities?

Is there a city or landmark you want to be near?

North central Texas, Eisenhower State Park on the south shore of Lake Texoma is nice. I especially like the hiking trail that runs along the shore, some of which is a cliff with a great view over the lake. But bring lots of leveling blocks; even their so-called "level" sites have a measurable slope to them.

We stayed at Sandy Lake rv park in Carrollton last June for a couple of nights. Ok place, clean restrooms and laundry. We will be visiting our son for a month in January and may stay there as it is so close to him. Checked website for Grapevine, looks like a better place but rates over double that of Lake Sandy, if I read it right. Any others in that immediate area?

We Have stayed a couple of times at the North Texas Airstream Community (NTAC) in Hillsboro, which is about 55 miles south of Fort Worth. The folks at NATC are very nice and friendly. Each time we have been there we were invited to their pot luck dinners. Hillsboro is a neat little town.

We would like to stay at the Airstream park, and may for a night or two if we can, but it is just too far away from our son near Carrollton. We currently are at a very large park in AZ. We were the only Airstream here until recently when another one pulled in right behind us!

You would be more than welcome at Texas Airstream Harbor just outside Lufkin Tx. We will have a Thanksgiving dinner. We love company. It's in East Texas however

Inks Lake State Park, Blanco State Park or Blanco Settlement, Lady Bird in Fredericksburg.

Our favorite is Potter's Creek Campground on Canyon Lake, about 60 miles north of San Antonio. It's quiet, peaceful, spacious, beautiful, and affordable. It is one of the Corps of Engineers campgrounds so if you have the Golden Age pass, it's only about $11 per night. They have about 120 spaces that are well spaced out. There is always herds of deer moving about the park. It's not too bad a drive to San Antonio or to Austin. It is a nicely maintained and run park.

**THIS WEEKEND** LOST MAPLES STATE NATURAL PARK, TX
-- If you're looking for signs of the fall season, then head to Lost Maples State Natural Park this weekend. The park just issued its foliage report and it states this weekend will be the best one of the season to see the brightly colored leaves on the trees. If you're familiar with the park, then you know it's one of the best places in our area where you'll see the leaves change color. Hit the East Trail and you'll see the most color among the trees. If you opt for the Maple trail, you're likely to see the best color along the canyon walls. The park is open seven days a week year round.

You were at Lake Whitney in August without AC and you LIKED it? You're TOUGH!

Not so tough. My sister lives in White Bluffs, so we slept in her air-conditioned guest room, while on our way to California. Our comfort limit for sleeping in the un-airconditioned trailer was about 90 degrees, and 70 or 80 was a lot better.
