Day 12 Cody, WY to Declo, ID

Well we finally got moving again after a much needed rest in Cody. We Entered the east gate of Yellowstone and proceded up and over the mountain pass. The road is under construction and mostly gravel. We took some pictures of the lake with the Tetons in the background (See below)
Looked to get a glimpse of Moosetags around Fishing Village but to no avail. A crowd was gathered near there to watch a Bear in a meadow - hard to get through the traffic. We took a wrong turn in West Thumb and ended up in a parking lot and low and behold there was Lucy (Moosetags) but the McCabes were nowhere in sight. Left a note on their door and took a picture od Lucy and Carmine O (see below). We had a date with our son-in-law's brother and fiance (and her brother) for lunch in Grant Village. They are getting married next week and both work for the Park for the summer.
We experienced a problem with the truck (check engine light) - checked with OnStar but they couldn't get any reading. We stopped at Coulter Bay service area and they checked things out and narrowed it down to a short in the break control module. They didn't have any and it was Saturday at 4:30 on a holiday weekend. We called around and located one in Idaho Falls, Id. we gve them the credit card number and then showed up and gave us the module after closing as we went through Idaho Falls. Whew!
I will get it installed today.
we made it to Village of the Trees RV Park in Declo about 10:30pm - nice park. More on it later.

Sorry we missed ya'll at Yellowstone. We wish we could have been there for the photo shoot. Glad to hear that your mechanical problem is solved.

Way to go! Nice chance rendezvous with Moosetags. Is that a burn area in the foreground of your mountain shot?

Thanks for the updates -- precious few Forums members at home this weekend -- me among them. My time will come.

Burn Area

Bob,
Yes it was a burn area, I believe one of the more recent as there was no new growth showing yet. Another part of the park that was burned did have a lot of new growth showing.

Day 13 Idaho and Oregon

We made it to Terrebonne, OR last night about 9:30 Pacific time. We came across Rt 20 which is high desert. There were very few cars and trucks as opposed to I 94. We are looking forward to a visit with my cousin and his wife here on the former Crooked River Ranch. Temperature was 37 this morning.
Will post pictures as I can.
Here is a picture of Village of the Trees campground in Declo, ID beautiful campground right off of interstate. Clean and well kept, friendly folks.

I love the short days on the road

We left Terrebonne this morning at about 11:00 am and arrived at Mt. Shasta KOA about 4:00 pm (250 miles). It is a beautiful drive down Rt 97 to Bend, Klamath Falls and Weed, CA. There are all the extinct volcanic mountains from the Three Sisters in Bend, Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Shasta in CA. We opted not to take Carmine O up to Crater Lake as we had been there several years ago.
Tomorrow we reach our westward destination of Auburn, CA. We can't wait to squeeze our five grandchildren, especially our newist grand daughter born on May 8.

First Picture is Crooked River Ranch at Sunset from my cousins back deck. The second picture is of the Three Sisters from Terrebonne, OR. The third is Carmen O and Mt. Shasta from a view point on Rt 97. The last picture is of the camping spot at the Mt. Shasta KOA (look closely through the trees and you can see the snow on Mt. Shasta.

Western Destination reached 5/30

We arrived in Auburn and are staying in the Auburn Gold Country RV Park on Wednesday afternoon. We are enjoying seeeeing our son and his family, especially squeezing on the grandkids, all five of them. Plenty of hugs and kisses all around.
We are heading up to French Meadows today to see if I want to tow Carmine O up there to camp with the boys for a couple of days next week. Logging roads and I don't know what to expect.
Here are a few pictures of the trip down I-5 from Mt. Shasta to Auburn, CA
The second picture is of Mt. Shasta from the edge of the Mt. Shasta KOA

Scouting trip to French Meadows Recreation Area

My son and I went to French Meadows yesterday, a 2 hour 36 mile trip from Foresthill, CA up into the Sierras. The road was paved two lane carved into the side of canyon walls. I think we went up and down three walls to get there. Most of the traffic was US Forest Service and/or logging trucks. We were passed by about 9 motorcycles on there way to Auburn (Motorcycle weekend). The campground and resevoir were beautiful all paved no power or water. Community water was available and alot of bear proof boxes.
I would not recommend the trip for those feint of heart of afraid of heights.
The maximum speed limit was 45 but we mostly did 20 - 25 in tow/hauls mode to save brakes. The Allison trany did run a little warm (up to 180 degrees).
I don't think I want to tow Carmen O up there and will opt for Sugar Creek Resevoir instead.
Here are some pictures taken from the bridge on the way to Foresthill, the canyons and French Meadow resevoir.
The boy's are off to see the USA-China Soccer match in San Jose today.

Day 25 - Update on Adventures

We had a blast at the USA - China Soccer game in San Jose on Staurday. It was the second largest crowd to attend such an event in that stadium (22,000 plus).
On Monday we took Carmine O in to Camping World to have the water heater serviced and have a Prodigy Brake control installed. The water heater works great and I can't believe the difference with the break controller, wow!
On Monday afternoon we left for Sugar Pine Campground above Foresthill, CA. My son towed his SOB with his Tundra and by the time we reached the campground his brakes were smoking (it was a very steep final grade into the campground) Our daughter-in-lawe and grandkids were following in their van. I am thankful for the allison tranny once again.
The campground was nicely kept we had a triple campsite where we could park the vehicles in a row. We had a great time, did some fishing (caught nothing) ate some s'mores and enjoyed the campfire and fellowship. The temperatures were chilly and it rained Tuesday afternoon and evening.
We broke camp on Wednesday bringing Carmine O back to Gold Country RV Park in Auburn where we will remain until Monday.
We visited an awesome sporting goods store called Sportsmans Warehouse in Roseville for fishing gear and license.
We finished the day by visiting Fulsome Lake to finish off the worms. My son caught a small crappie followed by my grandson (5) catching one and I finally caught one. The other grandson (10) dropped his fishing pole in off a rock and went in the lake after it. Fortunately the water was pretty warm.
It is hard to believe we have been on the road for 25 days now and still enjoying the AS.
