A little good news update - Dometic is shipping a replacement 310 to me no charge even though I'm out of warranty. They say the current version has an improved plastic in the pedal that should prevent a repeat. If it was under warranty they'd cover the labor to install it as well but I think I can handle this job - we'll see 😀

Now - to call "Good" Sam! 😕

Since this seems to be a post about Adventures on the road let me tell you my mine. We left South Carolina and drove to Austin to drop our yorkies off with my daughter. While we were in Austin for a few days our refrigerator temperature went up to 50, which was a shame because we just had a new refrigerator put in and new fans and some sort of kit that Airstream recommended. However as we went to the Grand Canyon and the Utah State Parks it was cool enough that the refrigerator maintained a temperature of 42 as long as I kept a bag of ice in the refrig. We also had a rock hit our windshield making a hole right in our line of vision. Having the windshield replaced tomorrow. The big problem now is that on the way back to Austin, our TPM showed that the right inside rear tire had 0 pressure. We found a tire store, they took the tire off and apparently there was a tear where the rubber extended inflater stem fits on the rim. They put a new stem on. Off we go. Almost immediately the TPM shows a loss of air. We found another tire store in the next town. When they took the tire off, the stem was torn. So they put our spare on. Now as it sits in the driveway it is loosing air. I have a call in to Mercedes in SC as the replaced all my original tires last year as to what we should do. We are planning on going to the boondocking School in Colorado from here, but hesitate with bad tires.. any advice re the refrigerator and the tires? All in all, we had a wonderful time at the parks and it has been worth it.

I am finally at the point where I rarely get upset anymore. As Maggie posted it *always* gets resolved eventually. What, me worry?

Cheers,
John

It sure can be the little things that can cause the most complicated issues. And they happen right at the wrong time - sounds like it all worked out okay in the end!

Gloria - sorry to hear that. On the second time - was the replacement stem rubber or metal? It sounds like something in that tire is affecting the stems - you should ask the dealer to identify the root cause of 2 very similar failures before repairing/replacing anything else. Not sure why the spare would be leaking - but I would assume (maybe incorrectly) it has nothing to do with the other 2 tires - though since all in the same position, is there some debris in that area "nicking" that particular tire position?

Good luck.

Maggie - I like the image you posted in #10

All - yes, this thread is for anyone's "adventures" - not just mine. Please have at it.

Last - I put call in to "G"S at lunch - they scheduled themselves to return my call a week from now on June 7. No, I'm not making this up.

Hadn't thought of that strategy! Come to think of it - I said I wanted to cancel all my memberships with them and they didn't. You're probably on to something here!! 😀

No advice on the fridge, but I do have some advice on the tires.

The fact that you have rubber valve stems tells me that you do not have internal TPMS, but rather external TPMS that attach to the end of the stem, because internal TPMS all come with metal valve stems.

But adding weight to the outside end of a rubber valve stem is not good for the stem; as the tire rotates, the stem wobbles from the extra weight of the TPMS— especially if the tire is out-of-balance. Since it's an inside tire, the stem extends out through the rim of the outer tire, where it might chafe if it wobbles.

So my advice is twofold:
1 - Replace the rubber valve stems with metal stems before you put the TPMS back on; and
2 - Then get the tires rebalanced with the TMPS sensors already in place.

Thanks for the input. I am going to the tire place as soon as they can get replacement tires. They don't have ours in stock. We did put a metal stem on the tire, but ended up not using it as the side walls were cracked. This when we put the spare on, which is also leaking. These tires are under warranty as they were all replaced last Aug. I will ask them to balance the tires with the TPM sensors on. As one thing leads to another, the glass guy came to replace our windshield and had a windshield for a sprinter as requested by progressive instead of one for an Airstream interstate. So now he has to order the correct windshield. So tell saga contiues. Luckily we are visiting our daughter and enjoying ourselves in beautiful Austin.

That makes no sense to me. The windshield in an Airstream Interstate is the original Sprinter windshield.

Protagonist it is the same except the glass man said thr interstate has all sorts of stuff in it like heater wires, the rear view mirror and some other sensors. By the way, we went to the tire place, they, they replaced one tire, put metal stemsin, rotated and balanced the wheels and by the time we got to my daughter's the same tire was down f r on from 60 to 50. So back we go tomorrow. I told them to check the rims. Don't know if they did.
