We live in Fl & took a trip to Maine a couple years ago, seeing as much as possible along the way. Presuming you'll be heading east towards the Carolinas the area is abundant with history. Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC is a must see, many civil war battlefields as you head north especially Gettysburg is well worth a couple day stop. Suggest you route yourself around Washington DC as the traffic is usually a nightmare. Northern Vermont has a quaint little ski town named Stowe. In the summer time it's alive with tourist and just beautiful. While in Stowe visit the Von Trap Family Lodge (Sound of Music). NH has Whiteface Mountain & along the coast of Maine Roadside Lobster Shacks cooking freshly caught Lobster boiled in sea water. Bar Harbor & Kennebunkport are both great stops in Maine. On your return pick up the ferry crossing from Vermont to NYS & check out the Adirondack Mountains especially Lake Placid, NY. You are traveling into a wealth of history and beautiful scenery, enjoy.
