Rain nor Sleet nor Hail....U.S. Mail...

What methods have worked best for you in receiving forwarded U.S. Mail when you are away from home for protracted periods?

Pick a post office either along your way or at your destination at USPS.Com. Call them and verify that the accept General Delivery Mail (surprisingly, some don't). Call or email your forwarding service and have them send it along.

We use St Brendan's Isle in Florida. They always use Priority Mail and we always allow at least 3 days for or to get somewhere. Have only had this system fail once.

As a retired letter carrier, my suggestion is DON'T use the Post Office. They will only accept mail from their system. I have opened a mail box at a UPS store. They accept not only forwarded US mail, but anything from anybody sent to your box. We frequently order something online, and have it sent to our UPS mailbox without worrying about if it will be accepted.
UPS will also box up and forward all your accumulated mail to another UPS store for a reasonable fee. Another great feature is that they will text you if you have a package arrive that is too large for your mailbox, so you can be sure to get there during office hours so they can retrieve it for you.
