question about I-75 north

How is I-75 north of Atlanta Ga, I was wondering how hilly it is towing across the Chattahoochee National Forest of the Blue Ridge Mts headed to Chattanooga Tn? Any input would be appreciated....

It is very hilly especially through the Jellico Mt.s I know alot of people that will take 65 instead. I have been through there many times in large turcks where you go up doing 20mph and then down at 90 mph. Depending on how comfortable you are towing you may want to consider an alternate like 65.

75 North from Atlanta to Chattanooga

Easy ride. There are one or two steeper hills just south of Chattanooga, but I don't remember them being more than a mile or two long. There are longer climbs driving north on I-75 through central Georgia than through north Georgia.

I recently towed our Argosy up I-75 to Ohio and back to Georgia using the 65/24 route. I kept it at 60 or 65 as the hills and traffic would allow.

There are at least 3 lanes between Atlanta and Chattanooga, but there is additional lane construction in the Kennesaw/Acworth area.

As drag'nwagon mentioned, once you are in TN and north of Knoxville, there are steeper, longer grades with only 2 lanes and enough trailer traffic to slow you down.

I-75 - piece of cake.

GA-75 - hilly, hair pin turns.

Between Chattanooga and Knoxville AND Knoxville up into to Kentucky, it's mostly two lanes each way. In the greater Knoxville area, there are 3 or more lanes each way while I-40 and I-75 run together.

Hope I did not make it sound like it was 2 lanes in total.

Thanks to everyone that has replied to our post, it was helpful. We would like to venture around Georgia, anyone have any scenic/neat places to checkout, would also like to maybe hit Stone Mtn. Does anyone have a not too mountainess way to get there from southern route ( FL )? Thanks again...

Stone Mountain is a great place to visit if you have not seen it before. If you do visit, plan on staying after dark and catch the laser light show. I have not seen the show in a few years, but I would not miss it if I was in the area.

Check out the video which does not come close to the real thing.

Looking at your unit, there is not a single road in all of GA that your tow vehicle could not pull your unit very comfortably. I live 40 miles south of Atlanta, and have driven all over GA pulling a trailer as well as driving a motorhome.
If you are a WBCCI member, there is an Airstream only campground 7 miles north of Helen that is a wonderful place to camp- full hookups at $7 a night. If you aren't a member, then it is limited to one night only.If you stay a week to 10 days, your savings in campground fees would pay for a years WBCCI membership! It is a wonderful place to use for home base to run all over N GA.
Stone Mountain campground is very nice as well. You probably will need to check on reservations. It is in close to Atlanta, and makes the whole city available from there. The charges are more- do not know the current charges.
If you drive through the town of Atlanta pulling your trailer, go STRAIGHT THROUGH TOWN AND USE THE HOV lane.....if there are two or more in the TV. It is the safest and slowest lane either on the bypass or I-75.
The thing that makes it so safe is that the idiots in my state/area don't do stupid things trying to pass you or exit/enter around you. it allows you to only have to watch for traffic on one side. I have done this for over 10 years, and never a problem, except for one irate Harley rider. Have no idea what his problem was as I was doing 60 in a 55 zone- I was the slowest one there however.
PM me for a phone number if you would like to talk about the area by phone rather than here.
