Queen Mine RV Park, Bisbee, AZ

Moved out of rural Elfrida, AZ yesterday when the winds started picking up, and headed to The Queen Mine RV Park in old Bisbee.

The camp is small, clean, and very cool, overlooking old Bisbee on one side and The Lavender Pit Mine on the other.

There are a couple of very cool Vintage Kin trailers up here too..

I am guessing you would enjoy stopping by to see the vintage trailers at The Shady Dell

Agreed, Queen Mine RV park is a great spot for visiting Bisbee, we have stopped there three or four times on our way to or from Tucson.

Not much in the way of facilities of course, but what they have is well kept. Only spots as I recall for maybe 30 back in spots all around a circle so every spot is easy to get into.

A wonderful place for visiting Bisbee as you can just leave the TV and walk into town in five minutes or so!

Bisbee is one of my most favorite towns to visit in Arizona. Surprising how cool it is there in the summer due to the high altitude. If you are ever driving I-10 by Benson, you need to go to Tombstone and Bisbee.

I lived within 30 miles of Bisbee for most of my life.

I remember when they closed the mine and the hard years that followed.

Bisbee as of late is experiencing a renaissance, IMO it is on the verge of either stasis, or becoming an even bigger draw. It is a unique place.

Mining operations are slated to begin again shortly, this has created a stir both in the positive sense and the negative as what remains of the Lowell district is to fall under the wrecking ball so that the pit is enlarged.

Unfortunately Shady Dell is closed and its stock of old trailers is being sold off.

It sucks.

Another vote for Bisbee! We spent 2 nights at Queen Mine RV Park in Feb 2015. Great little spot right in the center of town.

Wish we were there with you!

Wife and I were in Tucson a couple of years ago and made a visit to Tombstone. Loved that place, and wished we had time to explore Bisbee.
That'll have to be another trip!

Bisbee has become very cool in recent years, it is worth a trip!

I was surprised that the little park wasn't filled to capacity. I highly recommend it.

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear about the Shady Dell. That place is (was) such a magnificent tribute to the early days of RVing. I have a lot of great photographs of the trailers in that park and the "soda fountain" from several years ago. I guess I need to swing by there one more time before it's all gone.

Oh, dang, that really is sad about the Shady Dell! Were they just wanting to get out of that lifestyle into another (like we are), or was there some problem with the business?

I am not sure what happened there Lynn.

The place looks very well cared for, not like a place that has suffered money problems, but the trailers are being sold off and it is closed for business.

Here are a few pics from a few weeks ago.

Given their reputation, I wouldn't have expected some kind of business problem! (It can happen in unusual ways, though. Several years back, we had one here in NM that closed because of its bad sewer system.) But I suspect that this may be more of something along the usual lines: We get older; we want to retire; and we just don't want to do the business dance any more. Or, better still, maybe somebody came along wanting to build something expensive and wrote them a big, fat check!

I am thinking about the same as you on this Lynn. I suspect that something personal might have complicated business.

If you like Bisbee...

Try Turquoise Valley RV & Golf Club in Naco, AZ just 10 miles S on the MX border. You can walk across the border into Naco, MX for meds & dental plus great authentic Mexican food! You can catch the local bus to Bisbee and avoid the parking problem...
