Puyallup, WA and greetings from Ajo, Az.

Hi all. We just spent 10 days camped on the beach in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. Tonight we are staying in Ajo, Az. and will head to Salton Sea tomorrow.

My wife, Marian plans to attend a sewing confab in Puyallup, WA at the end of the month. I'm looking for suggestions about camping spots in and around the area. Also, I'd love suggestions about how Jacques the DDB and I might pass the time.

TIA,
Guy

Guy,

You don't have to stay at the Salton Sea.

In an hour or two more you could be in Palm Springs. Smells better.

Sewing Expo

Hi Guy,
My wife is going to the Sewing Expo also. She will be car sharing for the ride up. I usually stay home....but I threatened to take the "twinky" up this year. It's the largest sewing convention in the US. If you need a place to overnite coming home give me a call 541-753-6138. We're 10 miles west of I-5. Sorry I can't recommend any sites in Puyallup. Have fun!

Jim

You could go into Borrego Springs. It's just west of the Salton Sea. Couple of good RV parks there and plenty of boondocking room too. Hello also to Dunsmuir! My uncle was engineer on the "Daylight" between Klamath Falls and Dunsmuir. Many happy boyhood memories of that old town.

I really LIKE Salton Sea State Park and am looking forward to our time there. What am I missing?

Hi Guy,
I think it just that a lot of us have passed that way when the odor was a little less than pleasant. It isn't always like that, but sometimes, whew, brutal.
Glad you and Marian had a good time south of the border. When are you heading to WA? Ron

well mostly, its something you haven't seen yet. They have a good nature center and a hike up one of the palm canyons. It's right in the middle of the largest state park in America, Anza-Borrego State Park. Our m.o. is usually boondocking with the silver pullit and backroading with the International. Still, there's alot of nice scenery accessible from the motorhome. Have a good trip, wherever you go!

We stayed at Sandy Beach - $5.00/day boondocking. You can dump and fill at the adjacent RV park for $7. We had to dump and fill once in the 10 days we were there. There are lots of RV parks, some of which didn't look too bad. Not the reason we like to go however.

If you go to Sandy Beach, be careful to avoid the soft spots.

Hey! Welcome!

The only place that I can think of off hand is the Sea/Tac Koa, which is probably a good 20" north of Puyallup. Other sites around Tacoma are basically packed in parking lots. Does the fairgrounds offer camp sites?

The KOA is located on the Green River trail - a nice break from the city. Anything in particular you'd like to see? Tacoma has broken out of it's grungy city image - I recommend the Glass museum as a cool place to check out - if you're into blown glass. Seattle isn't that far away either.

Any pics from where you're at?
Marc

If you have trouble finding it, ask for directions to The Reef restaurant.

Jan & I used to do the Sandy Beach thing alot. 25 years ago it was just a beach with nothing else. I bet things have changed...
Ajo - I used to go to Ajo at least twice a month to service equiptment at the Phelps Dodge mine when I worked for IBM. I did get to see one of the nuclear reactors for the Palo Verde generator station move through the town many years ago. It took almost half a day to move it through that small town and another to get it to Gila Bend.

I can't believe I missed this thread until now - I grew up in Puyallup. Marc's right - not much available right around that area. There's Majestic Mobile Manor (which really doesn't seem that majestic, but it's close to town). If you wanted to go farther South, there are parks along Meridian which face Mt. Rainier and can be very pretty - I believe one of them is called Rainier View park and it's in/near the town of Graham.
