I had a tank stolen. One, not two. Lazy thief!
I now use a cable lock designed for a bicycle. I weave it around the wing nut, through both tank's collars, and over the cover center bar.
I had a spare tire stolen last year. Guess I need to lock that up too.

WTF?! People are just ridiculous. How did you or how do you plan to lock your spare tire?

My trailer had a clevis pin and a cotter key holding the spare tire holder. I took that out and added a bolt with two nuts. I've been thinking about using a pad lock, but I hate having more keys.
I figure if a thief brings tools they are going to take whatever they want, if they have a mind to.
